Summary
A compact mini PC built around an up-to-70 W AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS with Radeon 780M graphics, dual USB4, an OCuLink port for external GPUs and dual 2.5 GbE. Check two things before you buy: owners report high-frequency whistling from the NVMe/RAM heatsink fan, and the OCuLink adapter takes one of the two M.2 slots.
Strengths
- The 70 W Ryzen 7 7840HS and Radeon 780M give strong CPU and GPU performance for the size.
- Dual USB4, a 64 Gbps OCuLink port and dual 2.5 GbE are unusual in this price class.
- Memory and storage are user-upgradeable, up to 96 GB DDR5 and two M.2 2280 drives.
- Linux works: an owner runs Fedora with 32 GB of Crucial DDR5-5600 without issues.
- OCuLink eGPU use works with high-end cards; one owner paired it with an RTX 4090.
- Notebookcheck found it beat the UM790 Pro in some benchmarks thanks to better cooling.
Weaknesses
- High-frequency whistling from the NVMe/RAM heatsink fan is the most consistently reported complaint, worst at low-to-mid load.
- The fan supplier changed from CoolCox to EcoTherm around November 2023, so noise can vary by production batch.
- Wi-Fi 6E throughput measured below class average: 934 MBit/s receive against a 1,163 MBit/s average.
- Installing the OCuLink adapter leaves only one M.2 NVMe slot free.
- The RGB tiger logo cycles automatically and cannot be set to a static color.
- MINISFORUM advises against removing the board for cooler cleaning because of the liquid metal.

Performance and cooling
Notebookcheck rated it 87% and measured CPU performance within 6 percentage points of the Beelink SER7, with Cinebench R23 multi-core at 16,706 points and single-core at 1,779. Peak case-bottom temperature was 37 C under load. TechPowerUp awarded a perfect score, and TechRadar scored it well while warning that premium pricing may deter budget buyers. The Cold Wave 2.1 cooler uses pre-applied liquid metal, which MINISFORUM rates at 43 dB under full load. MINISFORUM strictly advises against removing the whole circuit board to clean the CPU cooler because of that liquid metal.
Fan noise
The most consistent owner complaint is a high-frequency whistle from the small 6007-series fan on the NVMe/RAM heatsink, most noticeable under low-to-mid CPU load; at high load the fan gets louder but the whistle is less obvious. MINISFORUM reportedly changed the fan supplier from CoolCox CC6007H12S to EcoTherm GFY06007H12S around November 2023, likely in response to the noise reports, so the problem may vary by production date. No failure-grade consequences have been reported. Reddit owners also chose the XTX over the UM790 Pro because the XTX fixes that model’s Wi-Fi antenna mounting issue.
Ports, storage and upkeep
Dual USB4 (40 Gbps), OCuLink (64 Gbps) and dual 2.5 GbE set the XTX apart from similarly priced mini PCs. The OCuLink port is an add-on M.2 board, so confirm it is present and installed before buying, and note it occupies one of the two M.2 2280 slots when fitted. RAM and NVMe are user-upgradeable (dual SODIMM, dual M.2 2280), and the Wi-Fi card is replaceable. No official MINISFORUM repair or parts catalog was found. Warranty is muddled: TechPowerUp lists two years, MINISFORUM EU lists one year on refurbished units with a 30-day money-back guarantee, and the US terms need checking on the current store page. Running costs are just electricity.
Is it worth it?
At $439–479 barebones it was competitive for a 70 W 7840HS with OCuLink and dual Ethernet, though the MINISFORUM US store showed that $439 sale as sold out. Configured 32 GB / 1 TB and 64 GB / 1 TB models launched at $629 and $719. Review-era pricing was far higher — Notebookcheck saw about $960 for 32 GB / 1 TB — where the XTX looked expensive next to the Beelink SER7. MINISFORUM EU refurbished units were listed at 349 EUR barebone and 499 EUR for 32 GB / 1 TB. None of that includes the optional eGPU enclosure and graphics card.
Which model this is
This page covers the MINISFORUM EliteMini UM780 XTX, the 7840HS model with dual USB4, OCuLink and dual 2.5 GbE, sold in Obsidian Black, Champagne Gold and Azure. It is not the UM790 Pro, which lacks OCuLink. The US listing is ASIN B0CPSFQPV6; seller and color variants can differ, so match the model on MINISFORUM’s own spec page.
