MINISFORUM UM780 XTX: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-19

Summary

The UM780 XTX is a 750 g mini PC built around an up-to-70 W Ryzen 7 7840HS with Radeon 780M graphics, dual USB4, a 64 Gbps OCuLink port and dual 2.5 GbE. The most consistent owner complaint is high-frequency whistling from the small NVMe/RAM heatsink fan, which MINISFORUM addressed by changing fan suppliers around November 2023, and installing the OCuLink adapter gives up one of the two M.2 NVMe slots. Running costs are just electricity; RAM and SSD are user-upgradeable.

Common problems and fixes

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

No recurring costs beyond electricity were reported: there are no filters, pods, batteries or subscriptions, and RAM/SSD expansion is user-installed. No kWh estimate or electricity figure is published in the research, so a dollar amount per year cannot be computed. Optional OCuLink eGPU hardware (enclosure plus graphics card) is a substantial one-time extra, not an annual cost. [2]

When it is a good buy

MINISFORUM EU refurbished units were listed at 349 EUR barebone and 499 EUR for 32 GB / 1 TB for buyers in Europe [15].
