Summary
A tool-only M18 FUEL 6-1/2" brushless circular saw for users already invested in Milwaukee’s battery platform. Check whether you own M18 batteries before buying: the bare tool ships without one, and the total cost depends on it.
Strengths
- 6,000 RPM brushless motor is 1,000 RPM faster than the 2730-20 predecessor.
- Magnesium shoe and guards keep weight down without giving up durability.
- Positive bevel and depth detents make repeat cuts fast.
- Electric blade brake stops the blade quickly after trigger release.
- Up to 300 cuts per charge on a HIGH OUTPUT XC6.0 battery (not included).
- 5-year tool warranty is above average for cordless power tools.
Weaknesses
- Blade-right configuration obstructs the sight line for right-handed users cutting at 90 degrees.
- The inline front pommel feels cramped for right-handed users.
- Tool-only configuration means the real cost includes a battery and charger if you do not already own them.
- No spindle lock, which makes blade changes slower than on competing saws.
- No variable speed trigger.
- Independent test data is thin beyond one Pro Tool Reviews hands-on review.

Cutting power and speed
Milwaukee claims the 2833-20 delivers up to 20% more power and up to 40% faster cutting than the 2730-20 it replaces, with a no-load speed of 6,000 RPM. Pro Tool Reviews tested the saw in July 2024 through 2x pressure-treated lumber and double-stacked 3/4 in OSB rip cuts and reported confident cutting power with no blade-guard hangup during compound miter cuts. The reviewer praised the lightweight design and positive detents. In a 2026 PTR head-to-head, the related 2834-20 (the 7-1/4 in rear-handle sibling) posted the fastest 7-foot rip-cut time among 12 cordless saws at 9.76 seconds, though the 2833-20 itself was not directly tested in that rig.
Sight line and handling
The blade-right configuration that keeps the saw compact also blocks the sight line for right-handed users cutting at 90 degrees, according to Pro Tool Reviews. The shoe has alignment notches to help compensate, but the workaround is not ideal. The inline front pommel also feels cramped for right-handed users, which can fatigue your lead hand on long cuts. Left-handed users report fewer issues. The saw is well-balanced and easy to use with a 6.0Ah battery attached, PTR notes.
Batteries and ownership costs
The “-20” suffix means bare tool: no battery, no charger. If you already own M18 REDLITHIUM packs, the 2833-20 slots into your kit at the bare-tool price. If you do not, add the cost of a battery and charger before comparing it to kit-priced competitors. The kit with a High-Output XC8.0Ah battery, thin-kerf 24T blade, and removable dust port was $419 at launch (Pro Tool Reviews, July 2024). Recurring costs are replacement blades and battery degradation over time. Battery packs carry their own 2- or 3-year warranties separate from the 5-year tool warranty.
Is it worth it?
At $115–$161 — the clearance prices Reddit owners have reported — the 2833-20 is a strong buy for M18 owners who want a lightweight brushless 6-1/2 in saw. At $200–$229 it competes well against the DeWalt DCS391B ($99, brushed motor, 5,150 RPM, 1-5/8 in at 45 degrees) on brushless power, RPM, magnesium construction, and warranty length. Above $250 the value thins unless M18 compatibility is the deciding factor. The Power Tool Store listed the bare tool at $229.00 in October 2026.
Which model this is
This page covers the Milwaukee 2833-20, the Gen II M18 FUEL 6-1/2 in circular saw released in Q2 2024 as the replacement for the 2730-20. It is a distinct 6-1/2 in FUEL model — do not confuse it with the older brushed 2630-20/2631-20/2632-20 saws or the 7-1/4 in M18 FUEL saw (2732-20/2834-20). The Amazon listing is ASIN B0DSVHSGPV. Milwaukee’s official page identifies manual 58-14-0235 and parts list 54-40-2655.
