Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

The VS6601S Silver is a 120W countertop vacuum sealer with separate Dry/Moist and Normal/Gentle controls, a jar-and-bottle hose and a five-year warranty for buyers who register the machine. Check the moisture question first: this is an edge sealer, so soup and heavy marinade need freezing before they go in a bag, and no lab has measured the advertised 90 kPa on this unit.

Strengths

  • Separate Dry/Moist and Normal/Gentle controls, plus Seal Only for making bags from roll stock.
  • The box carries two rolls, five precut bags, spare gaskets and a hose, so a first batch of bags needs no extra film.
  • TOP and BOTTOM foam gaskets are sold for this exact model at $9.99 each, $19.98 for the pair (Mesliese store, October 2026).
  • Stainless-look lid with flat buttons and rubber feet, easy to wipe down.
  • The Gentle setting suits crushable food, and the hose handles compatible canisters and bottles.
  • A five-year warranty promise for customers who register within two weeks of receipt.

Weaknesses

  • Owners in r/sousvide report pulling marinade into the unit, after which it still drew air but would not heat-seal.
  • The mandatory 20-second pause between seals makes batch work slower than the “20 continuous seals” line suggests.
  • There is no detachable, washable liquid tray; the independent tester complained about it and juices need wiping from the fixed channel.
  • Nobody has measured the 90 kPa or the 3–10 second vacuuming claim on a production unit.
  • The marketplace listing shows a UPC that conflicts with the manufacturer’s and carries no customer reviews of its own.
  • Several service parts are named for VS6601 rather than VS6601S, and the VS6601 power cord was sold out in October 2026.

Which model this is

The machine behind this project name is the VS6601S in silver, made by Mesliese and stamped with manufacturer UPC 758305947840. Some sellers list it under the generic “Mesliese 90kPa” label with no model number, so check the nameplate and the seller’s listing before you pay. The VS6601 in copper and pink is a different machine; the store’s copper and pink VS6601 listings show $89.99 but are sold out, and the 95 kPa 140W V6120 and the VS6685J are separate products. The drip tray sold for the VS6685J is not a part for this machine.

Suction, sealing and handling

The 90 kPa figure comes from the manufacturer. kit, so check what arrives.

The seam width is genuinely unclear. The product page talks about a 12mm widened heating strip and a five-layer heater; the manual specifies 3mm heating wire width. Those may describe different parts, and nobody has published a cutaway of the finished seal, so do not promise yourself a wide seam.

Every bag takes a few deliberate steps: leave at least 3 inches of film above the food, drop the open mouth into the vacuum channel, press both sides until you hear two clicks, and release only after the seal indicator goes out. Both ends of the lid have to latch. A bag that sits wrong or a lid that is not fully clicked will not evacuate, and there is no one-hand lever to make up for it. After a session, close the lid gently rather than latched, because a locked lid compresses the gasket over time.

Wet food and food safety

Moist mode handles surface moisture, not a bag full of marinade. A July 2024 post in r/sousvide describes an owner of a Mesliese of unspecified model pulling marinade into the machine on the second use; the pump still drew air but would not heat-seal, and replies in the thread suggested drying the unit and freezing the liquid first. The manufacturer says the same thing in the manual: pre-freeze soups and marinades, and wipe spilled liquid out of the vacuum channel and the seal area. For soup, freeze it first or buy a chamber-type sealer.

The liquid tray is not there either. The independent tester specifically complained about the lack of a detachable tray, and juices have to be wiped from a fixed channel. On top of that, vacuum packing does not sterilize food: sealed raw meat and fish stay perishable, and the machine does not replace refrigeration, freezing or safe canning heat processing.

Bags, parts and running costs

Film is the running cost. Mesliese sells 8in × 16ft embossed rolls in a 3-roll pack for $27.99, which works out to 48 linear feet of 8-inch film, and a mixed 8in and 11in × 16ft six-roll kit for $39.99 with 96 linear feet. Work an example: 100 portions a year, each a 12-inch bag cut from 8-inch film, come to roughly $0.583 of material per bag and about $58.31 of roll stock for the year. Buying whole packages means three packs at $83.97 to cover those 100 bags, with about 44 linear feet left over for later. Wasted film, tax and shipping push that higher.

Electricity is noise. At the 120W nameplate, 30 seconds at full input and 100 cycles a year, the machine draws 0.10 kWh; at an assumed $0.20 per kWh that is $0.02 a year, and real draw is lower for parts of each cycle.

Parts are the documented repair path. The manufacturer’s own store lists the TOP and BOTTOM foam gaskets for this exact model at $9.99 each, $19.98 for both (October 2026). The accessory hose Tube-VS6601 is $6.99 on sale, $9.99 regular, and the wine stopper for 6601S is $9.99. The sealing strip listed as “sealing strip-6601” is $9.99 and the rubber foot pads for VS6601 are $9.99, but neither name guarantees a fit with VS6601S, so ask support before ordering. The VS6601 power cord was $9.99 and sold out in October 2026, and a generic 12V DC cable is $9.99 on sale. There is no confirmed OEM part for the vacuum pump, the electronics board, the cutter carriage or a liquid tray, and nobody has published a replacement interval for the gaskets, so replace them when they are worn rather than on a schedule.

Warranty, support and value

The five-year warranty is conditional. It applies to registered customers, and the manual says to register within two weeks of receipt, so a used or unregistered machine does not automatically carry five years. Claims go to support@mesliese.co with proof of purchase, and the company promises a prepaid return label and a refund or replacement in new or near-new condition. The same page promotes a separate one-year money-back guarantee, and how a heavily used multi-year unit is treated is not spelled out. Keep your receipt and screenshots.

The manual promises a reply within eight hours. That is a promise, not a measured service average, and no published figures exist for refund rates, denied claims or repair turnaround on this model. No failure rate has been published for the pump, heater or lid latch either, and the only hands-on test ran for a week, so nobody can tell you how long this machine lasts. Before you file a return, check that the plug is really 120V, that both latches click, that the gasket sits properly, that the bag mouth is clean and dry, and that you gave the strip its 20 seconds of cooling. Test on several new ribbed bags, photograph any failure, and ask in writing whether the specific part is serviceable without voiding coverage.

At the October 21, 2026 check, Mesliese’s own store listed the VS6601S Silver at $129.99 and in stock, while a Newegg marketplace listing from third-party seller RunRich Garden asked $111.99 with free shipping and 30-day returns, though it shows a conflicting UPC and no customer reviews for that listing. For comparison, the Anova Precision Vacuum Sealer Pro is $114 direct with a two-year warranty, a 100-day money-back offer and a Serious Eats program that tested 27 machines, and the NESCO Deluxe VS-12P is $149.99 direct with a double pump, Dry/Moist/Double sealing and a built-in roll cutter.

Under $75 delivered is good value if the unit is genuinely U.S.-compatible and documented. Between $75 and $95 is reasonable for occasional freezer prep. From $96 to $115, spend the money on the Anova Pro at $114 unless you specifically want VS6601S gasket supply or softer suction. Above $115, the money is better spent on the Anova or the NESCO.
