Summary

A compact 18V brushless impact driver kit for existing Makita LXT owners, discontinued by Makita USA and now sold from remaining stock. Check whether the kit is new old stock or reconditioned, and whether the three-year warranty applies, before you buy.

Strengths

  • 1,590 in.lbs of max torque and 3,600 RPM in a body 4-1/2 in. long and 3.3 lbs with battery.
  • Consumer Reports ranked it 3 of 32 tested standard impact drivers, citing power for large lag bolts and extremely long run time.
  • Four speeds plus Assist Mode, two Tightening Modes and reverse auto-stop cover self-drilling screws through lag bolts.
  • The kit includes two 5.0Ah batteries and a rapid charger; Consumer Reports measured a 45-minute recharge.
  • A three-year limited warranty covers tool, battery and charger.

Weaknesses

  • Makita USA has discontinued the XDT19T and XDT19Z, so new kits are remaining stock and listings may not flag it.
  • One owner reported the tool quitting entirely with no lights or response, and a switch replacement did not fix it.
  • Consumer Reports’ detailed scores are member-gated, so its per-criterion results cannot be checked.
  • Makita’s current replacements, the XDT20 and XDT21, reach 1,860 in.lbs.

Power and performance

The XDT19T rates 1,590 in.lbs of max torque and up to 3,600 RPM, with a one-touch selector under the chuck for four speed ranges. Quick-Shift Mode uses the brushless motor’s electronic controls to balance speed and torque for the job. Assist Mode starts screws at low speed to reduce cam-out and cross-threading, two Tightening Modes handle self-drilling screws in thin or thick metal, and reverse auto-stop halts the driver once a fastener is tight. Consumer Reports called it very powerful, capable of driving large lag bolts, scored it 83 and ranked it 3 of 32 tested standard impact drivers. No RTINGS, Tom’s Guide, CNET or PCMag review of this exact model was found.

Kit contents and run time

The kit pairs the XDT19Z driver with two BL1850B 5.0Ah batteries (about 90 Wh each), a DC18RC Rapid Optimum Charger and a tool bag. Consumer Reports measured a 45-minute recharge and called the run time per charge extremely long. The bare XDT19Z and the XDT19R kit with 2.0Ah batteries share the family name; the T suffix is what gets the 5.0Ah batteries.

Discontinued: what it means for buyers

Makita USA lists the XDT19T and XDT19Z as discontinued and points to the XDT20Z as the replacement bare tool, with the newer XDT21 at 1,860 in.lbs now the flagship. Remaining US inventory is new-old-stock kits, bare tools at third-party retailers and factory-reconditioned XDT19T-R units, and marketplace listings may not flag the discontinuation. Makita still publishes the XDT19 instruction manual and parts breakdown, and the driver works across the LXT line, from BL1815N to BL1860B batteries and DC18RC through DC18SH chargers, so battery support outlives the model. Whether remaining new-old-stock kits carry the full three-year warranty from date of purchase has not been verified.

Is it worth it?

Consumer Reports listed the XDT19T at $429.00 and the XDT19R at $448.75, and The Power Tool Store, an independent retailer, lists the kit at $429.00. Pacific Power Tools listed the factory-reconditioned XDT19T-R at $339.95, sold out. At $250 or less, a kit or bare tool is a strong buy for existing Makita 18V owners. Between $250 and $350 it is fair. Above $350 it is weak: the reconditioned XDT19T-R already undercuts that level and the newer XDT20 and XDT21 offer 1,860 in.lbs.

Which model this is

This page covers the XDT19T kit, which bundles the XDT19Z driver with two 5.0Ah batteries. The XDT19Z bare tool and the XDT19R kit with 2.0Ah batteries share the XDT19 family name. Do not confuse it with the older XDT16, at 1,600 in.lbs and 4-9/16 in. long, or the newer XDT20 and XDT21.
