Summary

A 5-ply stainless clad nonstick frying pan with a PTFE-based professional coating; Consumer Reports rated it excellent across its lab tests and Business Insider named it their high-end nonstick choice after testing 21 skillets.

Strengths

  • Consumer Reports rated it excellent in cooking evenness, nonstick food release, nonstick durability, handle temperature and handle sturdiness.
  • In Consumer Reports’ durability test the coating withstood 2,000 steel-wool strokes, their stand-in for metal utensils and abrasive cleaners.
  • Eggs and fish release without oil, and the pan holds heat well once up to temperature.
  • The hollow handle stays cool enough to touch without a potholder.
  • It works on gas, electric and induction, and is oven-safe to 500°F.

Weaknesses

  • At least one owner reports Made In declining warranty coverage for coating damage; another describes a 3-year-old pan refused coverage.
  • The coating contains PTFE, which Business Insider lists as a con — the pan is not PFAS-free.
  • Made In’s claim that the coating lasts up to 70x longer than ceramic has no independent verification.
  • Metal utensils scratch the surface, and the pan is hand wash only.
  • Origin labels disagree: US pages say “Made in the USA”, while some Canadian, UK and set pages say “Made in Italy”.

On the stove

Business Insider tested the 10-inch ProCoat in its kitchen in April 2024 and later named it their high-end nonstick choice after testing 21 skillets. Testers praised how quickly and evenly it heats, how it holds heat, eggs that slide off without oil, and a handle that stays cool through service. One tester scratched the surface with metal utensils over two years of use, which fed their durability concerns. Consumer Reports ran two separate test entries and rated the pan excellent in cooking evenness, nonstick food release, nonstick durability, handle temperature and handle sturdiness; in its release test, four consecutive eggs came off without assistance.

Coating durability and warranty

Made In markets the coating as lasting up to 70x longer than ceramic, but that is a comparative marketing claim with no independent verification behind it. One owner stopped using the pan as the flaking worsened and asked Made In for a replacement; another reports the company declining coverage with “too bad — we don’t stand by our products”, and a third describes a 3-year-old pan refused. Consumer Reports’ 2,000 steel-wool strokes simulate metal utensils and abrasive cleaners, not years of home cooking, so the lab result does not settle the long-term question. Nobody has published a failure rate, so treat this as a known risk rather than a measured defect.

The warranty term is unclear. Consumer Reports lists one year; Made In’s site promises limited or lifetime coverage on all its cookware with exceptions for proper care and use, and the ProCoat frying pan’s specific term is not clearly stated.

Care and running costs

Made In’s care guidance is hand wash only: no abrasive detergents on the cooking surface, no metal utensils, pan protectors or towels when stacking, and slow heating and cooling to prevent warping. One Business Insider tester ran theirs through the dishwasher without noticing a surface change, but the manufacturer’s guidance is hand wash, so follow that. The box contains the pan only; Made In sells pan protectors separately for stacking storage. There are no consumables beyond cooking oil and butter. The real running cost is the pan itself: when the coating degrades there is no recoating service, only replacement. One owner calls 2.5 lbs “a little heavy”, while acknowledging that heft is what stops the pan from warping.

Is it worth it?

Business Insider’s 2024 test listed $129 for the 10-inch ProCoat. Made In’s US site lists the 10-inch ProCoat at $299, discounted to $199 against a $407 set comparison, and factory-imperfect seconds are listed at $69.99. The UK site lists the 25 cm version at £109.

At the seconds price this pan is reasonable: you get excellent initial nonstick performance and even heating and accept that the coating may degrade in a few years. At $129 it sits alongside other premium pans such as Le Creuset and OXO, where its 5-ply construction and induction compatibility count for something, but the coating-durability reports and PTFE content hurt it. At full retail the case weakens further: you pay a premium price for documented coating-degradation concerns and no clear warranty protection for the primary failure mode, and ceramic alternatives — including Made In’s own CeramiClad — become harder to ignore.

Which model this is

This page covers the Made In Cookware ProCoat Non Stick Frying Pan in the 10-inch size — the PTFE-based professional nonstick in Made In’s lineup, built on a 5-ply stainless clad body. It is not the CeramiClad ceramic line, the Carbon Steel line or the standard stainless frying pan; those are different products with different coatings and construction. The US Amazon listing for this pan is ASIN B09S14VH7M. Origin is inconsistently stated: US product pages say “Made in the USA”, while Canadian and UK pages and the 10-piece set listing say “Made in Italy” or “Made in the USA or Italy”, and Made In does not explain the discrepancy.
