Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A wireless, no-RGB gaming mouse from Logitech’s 2022 G502 X refresh, with 11 buttons, LIGHTFORCE hybrid main switches and a 500 mAh battery rated up to 140 hours. Check the price before you buy: at $139.99 from Logitech’s US store it is fair value against newer 4000 Hz rivals.

Strengths

  • The right-handed shape stays comfortable through hours of use; IGN and Tom’s Guide both praise it.
  • Eleven buttons with 13 programmable controls cover more inputs than most non-MMO wireless mice.
  • The dual-mode free-spin scroll wheel is useful for long documents.
  • LIGHTFORCE hybrid main switches aim to end the double-click failures that hit older mechanical G502 models.
  • POWERPLAY wireless charging keeps it topped up without a cable.

Weaknesses

  • At 102 g it is heavy by current standards, and owners repeatedly cite weight as a drawback.
  • Polling is fixed at 1000 Hz and there is no Bluetooth, both trailing 2025-2026 rivals.
  • The scroll wheel is the weakest hardware point: owners report skipping and inversion after months of use.
  • Side buttons still use ordinary mechanical switches, and double-click reports persist there.
  • Buttons sound cheap and springy, with side-to-side wiggle under force.
  • G HUB is required for any customization and draws consistent complaints for profile and keybind bugs.

Battery life and firmware

Logitech rates the 500 mAh battery at up to 140 hours at the standard 1000 Hz polling rate, and IGN’s test tracked 140-150 h on a single charge, matching the claim. The support spec sheet gives different figures — up to 500 h in HI performance mode and up to 18 months in LO endurance mode — and both sets are worth keeping because they come from different measurement assumptions. Charging takes about 2 hours. The mouse charges over USB-C and works with POWERPLAY wireless charging if you buy that separately; the official guide only states generic POWERPLAY, so treat POWERPLAY 2 support as unverified.

Comfort and weight

At 102 g the G502 X LIGHTSPEED is heavy against modern lightweight mice, and owners repeatedly call out the weight. IGN used it for hours without aches and Tom’s Guide awarded it Editor’s Choice for the ergonomic shape, so it stays comfortable despite the mass. Claw-grip users report the rubber side grips wear within about a year.

Scroll wheel and switches

The scroll wheel is the weakest hardware point. Owners report skipping steps and inverting scroll direction after about 3 months of use, and IGN found the ratcheted mode loud, stiff and cheap-sounding. The LIGHTFORCE hybrid main switches are meant to fix the double-click problem that plagued earlier mechanical G502 models, but the side buttons are ordinary mechanical switches and double-click reports still appear there. One Arch Linux forum report says high-resolution scroll stays active even in ratcheted mode under Linux drivers.

Software and running costs

G HUB is required for any customization, and reviewers and owners consistently criticize it for profile and keybind bugs. There are no mandatory running costs beyond electricity: the battery is not user-replaceable, and the only optional extra is the POWERPLAY wireless charging system sold separately. Logitech backs new units with a 2-year limited hardware warranty and refurbished units with 1 year.

Is it worth it?

At $139.99 from Logitech’s US store it is fair; at the $99.99 Logitech refurbished price or the $108 Newegg marketplace listing it is a strong multi-genre pick for G502-shape loyalists. Above that, IGN’s 2025 assessment is that newer mice with 4000-8000 Hz polling undercut it on specs. Battery life, comfort, button count and sensor performance are the attributes reviewers praise most, so the value case rests on the G502 shape and layout rather than the DPI headline.

Which model this is

This page covers the G502 X LIGHTSPEED, M/N MR0103, the wireless no-RGB model in the 2022 G502 X lineup, sold as black 910-006178 and white 910-006187. It is not the older non-X G502 LIGHTSPEED from 2019, which weighed 114 g and had removable weights, and it is not the wired G502 X or the RGB X PLUS.
