Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A 60 g symmetrical wireless gaming mouse for competitive FPS play, with Logitech’s HERO 2 sensor, LIGHTFORCE switches and up to 95 hours of battery. Check the scroll wheel before you buy: owners report direction reversal and failure, and the common fixes are only temporary.

Strengths

  • Symmetrical 60 g shape that fits most hand sizes and grip types.
  • HERO 2 sensor tracks consistently, past 500 IPS in PCMag’s tests.
  • LIGHTFORCE switches rated for 70 million clicks, largely free of the original’s double-click problem.
  • Dongle storage, grip tape and a PTFE-footed aperture door in the box.
  • 2-year limited hardware warranty on new units.

Weaknesses

  • No DPI button: changing sensitivity means opening G HUB or rebinding a button.
  • No Bluetooth and no RGB, so it is an FPS tool, not a general-purpose mouse.
  • Owner threads report scroll-wheel direction reversal and failure, with only temporary fixes.
  • The scroll wheel lacks left/right inputs and free-scroll, and its click is stiff.
  • The bare feature set is a harder sell at $159–$180.
  • Some owners call 60 g heavy against 2025 competitors, and the matte finish feels slippery with sweaty hands.

Performance, shape and battery

This is an iterative upgrade of the 2020 G PRO X SUPERLIGHT: same 125 × 63.5 × 40 mm shape, but USB-C, the HERO 2 sensor, LIGHTFORCE switches, higher polling and roughly 25 hours more battery. RTINGS rated it outstanding for FPS play, praising build quality and a symmetrical shape that fits most hand sizes and grip types. PCMag measured consistent, spot-on tracking, reliable wireless even in a congested RF environment, and battery life meeting the rated 95 hours, with the HERO 2 tracking past 500 IPS. Tom’s Hardware called the wireless latency low and the mouse comfortable across grip types, though very similar to the original — their conclusion was “probably not worth upgrading,” but worth it if you are torn between the two. CNET liked the responsive, smooth operation and the shared-receiver pairing with the TKL keyboard. On Reddit, owners describe the main buttons as “so crispy” and note the mouse is widely used by esports pros.

The scroll wheel problem

The scroll wheel is the recurring long-term complaint. In r/LogitechG and r/MouseReview threads, owners report direction reversal, skipping and complete failure, usually blamed on dust and debris inside the encoder, and the fixes — compressed air, blowing, running the wheel on a surface — are temporary. A Logitech representative said the issue was fixed in a “new version,” but owners posting months later still report it. Nobody has published a failure rate, so treat this as a known annoyance rather than a defect. Double-clicking is far rarer than on the original’s mechanical switches, though dust-related ghost clicks still occur. iFixit documents a full scroll-wheel replacement, so the failure is repairable, just not easy.

Repairs and upkeep

Keep the scroll wheel and sensor area clean; compressed air is the common remedy for skipping. iFixit’s scroll-wheel guide means removing six screws and swapping the rotary encoder — the stock part is a TTC White 8 mm unit. Logitech runs a spare-parts store, but the model’s support page lists no spares for this mouse, so repairs rely on third-party parts. New units carry a 2-year limited hardware warranty and refurbished units 1 year; Logitech’s general warranty page states 1 year for some products, so check the specific SKU’s terms before you buy. No battery-replacement or switch-soldering service is documented.

Is it worth it?

Owners on Reddit report paying around $106–$127 and call sub-$130 a good deal; at those prices the value is strong — a proven shape, the HERO 2 sensor, a 95-hour battery and USB-C. Logitech’s own store lists the mouse at $159.99 against an MSRP of $179.99; PCMag’s review listed Best Buy at $159.99, and Tom’s Hardware listed Newegg at $129.50 with Walmart and antonline at $139.99. Above $160 it is weak value for most buyers unless 8 kHz polling or the proven shape matters more. Running costs are low: G HUB is free, there are no subscriptions or consumables, and the optional extras are a PRO LIGHTSPEED receiver for 8 kHz polling, a PowerPlay wireless charging puck, and replacement PTFE feet and grip tape.

Which model this is

This page covers the Logitech G PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2, mouse model MR0097, released in September 2023 in black, white and pink. The Amazon listing is ASIN B09NBWL8J5. Do not confuse it with the original G PRO X SUPERLIGHT (HERO 25K, micro-USB), the SE (1 kHz receiver, 88 h battery), the compact 2c, the right-handed DEX, or the newer PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE.
