Summary

A 10.25-inch pre-seasoned cast iron skillet from Lodge with an engraved America’s 250th anniversary design on the underside, so it cooks exactly like the standard pan. Buy it for the commemorative engraving, not for any difference in cooking performance.

Strengths

  • Same iron, seasoning and dimensions as Lodge’s standard 10.25-inch skillet.
  • Strong heat retention and even heating.
  • Works on the stovetop, in the oven, on the grill and over a campfire.
  • Owners and testers treat Lodge cast iron as lifetime cookware for little money.
  • The factory seasoning performs well straight out of the box.
  • The engraved underside never touches your food.

Weaknesses

  • The cooking surface is rougher than premium cast iron, so food can stick until seasoning builds.
  • Some owners report rough rims, pitting or factory seasoning that flakes in the first year.
  • At 5.66 lb the 10.25-inch pan is heavy for one hand.
  • It rusts if you do not dry and oil it after washing.
  • The lifetime warranty excludes rust, staining and rough surfaces.
  • As a limited edition it may be discontinued after the anniversary period.

What the engraving changes

The patriotic design, American monuments and icons with a map background and “United States of America 250 Years” text, sits on the bottom of the pan. The cooking surface is standard smooth cast iron, and the dimensions, weight and material are identical to Lodge’s regular 10.25-inch skillet. Men’s Journal confirms the engravings are on the underside, which leaves the pan every bit as usable as the standard model. No independent test has specifically measured the engraved bottom for seasoning wear or rust risk, though it does not touch food.

Cooking and seasoning

Wirecutter has tested Lodge cast iron as part of a skillet programme running since 2017, and Consumer Reports found the Lodge Classic expert at searing steaks with good cooking evenness. Popular Mechanics named a Lodge skillet best for everyday use, and Hearth & Patina rated this size highly for value. The one recurring complaint is the new surface texture: it is sand-cast and deliberately rough so seasoning can grip it, and owners report food sticking until a layer builds up. Lodge’s own guidance is that it smooths with use.

Care, warranty and repairs

Care is the usual cast iron routine: hand wash with warm water and minimal soap, dry thoroughly, then apply a thin layer of oil. Lodge’s Made Right Limited Lifetime Warranty covers cracks and warps during normal household use and damage in transit, but it excludes rust, staining, scuffing, powdery surfaces, rough surfaces and misuse, and it is void if you dishwasher, soak or microwave the pan. Cast iron is genuinely repairable, since rust strips off and seasoning reapplies, and there are no electronic or mechanical parts to fail.

Is it worth it?

Lodge lists the USA Icons skillet at $34.95, discounted to $29.90 (Lodge, October 2026), and Men’s Journal saw the same $34.95 regular price in March 2026. Lodge’s standard 10.25-inch skillet runs about $18-25, so you are paying the difference purely for the engraving and the collectible angle. If you want a patriotic gift or keepsake that also cooks, that premium is modest. If you only care about cooking, the standard pan is the same thing for less.
