Bare cast iron, not enameled
This is the plain cast-iron version, not the enameled Dutch oven Wirecutter tests. Bare iron needs more looking after: Lodge says wash, dry and rub with oil, and CNET, reviewing a comparable Lodge bare cast iron pot, notes it needs careful washing and re-seasoning but is built to last decades. Bon Appétit found raw cast iron Dutch ovens hard to keep seasoned for braises and stews, with tomato sauce stripping the seasoning and leaving a metallic taste, and recommends them only for cast iron enthusiasts.
The grill-pan lid
The lid is not just a cover: it inverts into a handled grill pan, so the same pot gives you a Dutch oven and a second cooking surface. That two-in-one design is the main reason to pick it over a plain 6-quart Dutch oven.
Warranty
Lodge’s Made Right limited lifetime warranty covers the Chef Collection seasoned cast iron line: if the iron cracks or warps in normal cooking, or has a casting defect, Lodge replaces it free with a similar or equal-value product, and may ask for photos or the product at its own expense. It excludes rust, pitting, roughness, sticky seasoning, flaking and odors, and is voided by dishwasher washing, soaking in water or microwaving.
Lodge lists the LC6DD at $99.95, with a 2026 capture showing it at $89.90. At $90 or below it is a strong value for a US-made bare cast iron double Dutch oven with a grill-pan lid and a limited lifetime warranty. The regular $99.95 is still reasonable for the feature set. Above $110, enameled alternatives with independent test coverage, such as Lodge’s own 6 qt enameled Dutch oven, become more attractive because they need less maintenance.
