Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

The LG SPM7A is a discontinued 3.1.2-channel soundbar sold with a wireless SPN5B-W subwoofer, with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and 4K passthrough. Check the connections before you buy: it has only one HDMI input, and LG has ended the model.

Strengths

  • A genuine 3.1.2 Atmos and DTS:X layout with two up-firing speakers in the bar.
  • 4K, Dolby Vision and HDR10 passthrough with HDCP 2.3 on both HDMI ports.
  • High-res support up to 24-bit/96 kHz, plus 24-bit upsampling and Meridian Audio Technology.
  • A low-profile 35-inch bar with an included wall mount bracket and optical cable.
  • One year of parts-and-labor warranty.

Weaknesses

  • Only one HDMI input, so a TV, console and streamer need an external switch.
  • LG lists “Wireless Surround Sound Ready: No”, so there is no path to add wireless rear speakers.
  • Discontinued: LG’s support record marks the model discontinued, which weakens parts and service over time.
  • LG’s own materials disagree on the channel count, with a spec row reading 3.1.1 ch against the claimed 3.1.2.
  • Two power leads — the bar’s adapter and the subwoofer’s own mains — mean two outlets and cable management.

Which model this is

This page covers the LG SPM7A, sales model suffix SPM7A.DUSAWLK, UPC 195174033890, a 3.1.2-channel bar sold with the SPN5B-W wireless subwoofer. LG’s support record marks it a 2020 model and discontinued; the owner’s manual is revision 2112_Rev01, copyright 2021, with a release date of 02/04/2022. Do not merge it with other LG bars such as the SN7, S75Q, S80 or S90 families. The Amazon listing is ASIN B0BQLCDPHB.

One HDMI input

The SPM7A has a single HDMI input and a single HDMI output that carries ARC. There is no second passthrough port, so a TV, a console and a streamer cannot all stay plugged in; anything beyond one source needs an HDMI switch upstream of the bar. ARC lets the bar take audio back from the TV, and HDCP 2.3 covers copy-protected 4K sources.

Sound formats and power

LG rates the system at 380 W RMS total: 30 W RMS each for the front left and right, 30 W RMS for the center, 35 W RMS for each up-firing top speaker, and 220 W RMS for the subwoofer. The manual lists the subwoofer as a 1-way, 3 Ω driver rated at 220 W RMS with a 440 W maximum input. The bar handles Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, plus FLAC up to 192 kHz, and adds 24-bit upsampling and Meridian Audio Technology. On paper that is a full Atmos layout, but LG lists no wireless surround support, so the rear channels stay in the bar.

Repairs, running costs and upkeep

Clean the exterior with a soft dry cloth, or a cloth lightly moistened with mild detergent, and keep alcohol, benzine and thinner away. Firmware updates arrive over the air. There are no consumables to replace. The bar runs from an external 25 V / 2 A adapter and the subwoofer takes its own mains lead, so a full setup needs two outlets. Because the model is discontinued, spare parts and authorized service may be limited. Warranty is one year parts and labor.

Is it worth it?

LG listed the SPM7A at an MSRP of $299, and Walmart showed it near $197.77 in October 2026. At the higher figure the bar is hard to justify for a discontinued model with no lab testing; near the lower one it is defensible for a 3.1.2 Atmos bar with a real 220 W subwoofer and 4K/HDR passthrough, as long as you accept the single HDMI input and the lack of measured performance data.
