Summary
A 16-inch touchscreen ultraportable (1.8 kg) built around AMD’s Ryzen AI 7 445, with soldered 16 GB of RAM, a 77 Wh battery and a full port set — right for office, school and travel, not for heavy gaming. Buy it near the sub-$900 street prices of mid-2026 rather than LG’s $1,699.99 October list, and know that no full independent review of this exact model exists yet.
Strengths
- Sub-4-pound weight: 1.8 kg with a 16-inch 120 Hz touchscreen is light for the size.
- Ports without a hub: two USB-C with charging and display output, two USB-A, HDMI and a 3.5 mm jack.
- Storage expands: a second M.2 slot lets you add space even though the RAM is soldered.
- Best Buy buyers of this exact model praise battery life, cooling and everyday performance in their reviews.
- A full-size backlit keyboard with numeric keypad on a 16-inch chassis.
- Running costs stay at zero: no subscription or consumable needed for ordinary use.
Weaknesses
- The 26-hour battery figure is a video-playback claim, and the same chip finished last in PCWorld’s streaming test.
- No Thunderbolt 4 or USB4, which limits some external drives and docks.
- Speakers and webcam are adequate at best, and the black finish shows fingerprints.
- No full independent review of this exact model exists — only buyer reviews and tests of the chip in other laptops.

The processor question
Their verdict: disappointing, and the chip should have been branded a Ryzen AI 5. AMD’s own spec page cites up to 59 TOPS, while LG’s press release markets “up to 50 TOPS” for the 2026 gram line — treat the AI number as marketing. The integrated Radeon 840M handles everyday work but is not a substitute for a discrete gaming or workstation GPU.
Battery life in the real world
LG’s 26-hour claim is local video playback at 150 nits with wireless off, not browsing, streaming or office work. PCWorld streamed video on an Acer Swift Go 16 AI with the same processor and a smaller 65 Wh battery, and it finished last among tested laptops — behind Intel Core Ultra and Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite machines — in both raw battery life and efficiency per watt-hour. The gram Book carries a bigger 77 Wh battery, so it should do better, but nobody has measured this exact machine. XDA’s deal coverage says it “should last most people all day”, and Best Buy buyers praise battery life — short-term impressions, not lab results. Plan on charging daily until a real review publishes numbers.
RAM, ports and running costs
Count your tabs and VMs before you buy. Storage is the saving grace: a second M.2 slot takes another SSD. The port selection is generous for a sub-4-pound machine; what’s missing is Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 for fast external drives and docks. The two 1.5W speakers and FHD webcam are adequate at best, and the Titan Black finish picks up fingerprints. Some Best Buy reviewers needed time to adjust to the keyboard layout, and touchpad complaints show up there too — self-selected anecdotes, not measured defect rates.
The money side stays simple. gram chat Cloud AI is free for the first year after registration and optional paid thereafter; Microsoft 365 and McAfee arrive as 30-day trials you can decline. There is no mandatory subscription or consumable for ordinary offline Windows use. LG sold a one-year Premium Care plan for $1 on select gram laptops through May 10, 2026 — a service add-on, not a requirement. Battery, charger and SSD replacements are occasional, and LG does not publish model-specific US part prices; look parts up by serial number through its parts store. The US warranty is one year for parts and labor.
Is it worth it?
LG launched the gram Book 16 in May 2026 at a $1,100 MSRP; the launch deal was $899.99 at LG and Best Buy, the same price held in June, and by July 2026 Best Buy had it at $849.99, the lowest tracked price. On August 17, 2026, Best Buy and LG ran it at $799.99 new. In October 2026, LG’s US catalogue lists this exact model at $1,699.99, while Best Buy’s own listing showed $1,549.99 and third-party marketplace sellers advertised it from about $939 depending on condition. At $799–$900 new from an authorized seller it is strong value for a 16-inch 120 Hz touchscreen with dual SSD slots; above $1,100, the soldered RAM, absent Thunderbolt and this processor make the case thin, and a discounted gram Pro or Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 deserves comparison. The 32 GB variant (16U55U-H.AU87U1) was $1,069.99 in September 2026 at Smartprix.
