LG SN6Y 3.1-Channel 420W Soundbar System: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-29

Summary

The SN6Y is a 2020 LG 3.1 soundbar with a real center channel and a wireless subwoofer; it does not decode Dolby Atmos or DTS:X. Owners report the wireless subwoofer can drop out after about two years, and the HDMI path is HDCP 1.4 with a 1080p regional specification. It uses no subscription and no proprietary consumables, so running cost is electricity only, roughly $22.19 a year at the stated rates. A carefully tested complete unit is a strong value at $65-90, reasonable at $91-120, and only worth $121-150 in unusually clean tested condition; above $150 check newer alternatives.

Common problems and fixes

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

No subscription and no proprietary consumables. LG rates 38 W for the bar and 33 W for the sub when active and under 0.5 W standby each; 420 W is rated amplifier output, not wall draw. If it drew 71 W for four hours daily and 1 W for twenty hours standby, that is 110.96 kWh, or $22.19 at $0.20 per kWh. Actual draw depends on volume and utility rate; no prescribed service fee or documented typical lifespan was found. [1]

When it is a good buy

Discontinued: LG US direct shows no new order price and the 2020 MSRP was $399; Best Buy SKU 6402205 showed $100.99 clearance but is unavailable in new condition; B&H shows no new stock. Used listings include an eBay full system at $109.99 plus $59.28 shipping with no returns; a reseller-linked bundle at $82.97 with no remote or optical cable, cosmetic damage and a 30-day seller warranty; a soundbar-only unit sold for $67.99; and an OfferUp listing asking $200 near Atlanta.
