Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A 28.7-inch tower humidifier with a 10 L tank, cool mist only, Wi-Fi and app control through VeSync, and a two-year warranty. It suits a large bedroom or living room, but check your water: the ultrasonic design sprays mineral dust unless you use distilled or purified water.

Strengths

  • The 10 L top-fill tank runs up to 100 hours on the low setting, so you refill less often than with smaller units.
  • Consumer Reports lab-tested it and rated it “very good in overall performance” for the 600 sq ft class.
  • The two-year warranty is longer than the one-year norm for this category.
  • Owners praise durability, easy cleaning, quiet operation and effective humidity raise.
  • The VeSync app and included remote give schedules, timers and a target humidity without a subscription.

Weaknesses

  • It is cool-mist only; there is no warm-mist mode.
  • Ultrasonic output sprays white mineral dust with tap water, so you need distilled or purified water.
  • Mold growth is the top owner complaint; one owner rotates two units and lets each dry for a week.
  • The full 10 L tank makes the unit heavy to move for refills, about 22 lb of water.
  • The humidity sensor misreads within 12 in / 30 cm of a wall or in a corner.
  • The manual advises against running the unit above 60% relative humidity.

Tank, runtime and maintenance

The 10 L tank holds about 22 lb of water, which makes the unit heavy to carry to the sink but means fewer refills: Levoit rates up to 100 hours on the low mist setting, at roughly 100 mL/h of consumption. Higher mist levels empty the tank faster.

Consumer Reports requires only weekly maintenance and no filter, wick or cartridge replacement. The trade-off is water discipline: ultrasonic units spray white mineral dust with tap water, so the manual calls for purified or distilled water, and mold growth is the most common owner complaint. One owner rotates two units and lets each dry for a week. Clean the tank and base chamber regularly, rinse the water filter sponge, and use only official Levoit aroma pads.

App, remote and sensors

Control runs through the free VeSync app over Wi-Fi, with schedules, timers, a real-time humidity readout and Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant pairing; an included remote works within 16 ft / 5 m. Auto mode lets you set a target humidity in 10% increments and the built-in sensor adjusts mist level, with a two-level range.

The sensor is placement-sensitive: within 12 in / 30 cm of a wall, or in a corner, it misreads, and dust skews the reading. One manual Q&A owner reports a false empty-tank error with a full tank; that is a single report, and no failure rate has been published.

Noise, coverage and running costs

Levoit claims under 28 dB, and Consumer Reports rated the unit “very good in overall performance” at the 600 sq ft class with 2 gal of daily output. That is a single room: owners list whole-home humidification as a con. Electricity is minor at 27.5 W; Consumer Reports estimates about $1.05 a month for overnight use. Levoit lists the unit at $149.99, Consumer Reports’ retailer link showed $134.99 at check time, and a $109.16 deal circulated in August 2026 before expiring. Budget for distilled water and the occasional aroma pad or water filter sponge, both sold as official spares.

Is it worth it?

At $149.99 list, the value case rests on the 10 L tank, the tower footprint, the quiet claim and the two-year warranty; the same-brand LV600S hybrid is Wirecutter’s recommended model at $109-110 with a 6 L tank. A $109.16 deal undercuts that, but at full list price the 1000S pays $40-70 more than Wirecutter’s recommended model without a matching review consensus.

Which model this is

This page covers the Levoit OasisMist 1000S Smart Ultrasonic Cool Mist Tower Humidifier, US model LUH-M101S-WUS, launched in March 2023 as Levoit’s first tower humidifier. A remote-control variant is LUH-M101S-WUSR and the EU variant LUH-M101S-WEUR adds nightlight hardware. Don’t confuse it with the warm/cool OasisMist 450S, the LV600S hybrid or the smaller 600S; the 1000S is cool-mist-only with a 10 L tank. The listing identity is ASIN B0BLV8BM5J.
