Levoit NeoClassic 650S: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-20

Summary

The NeoClassic 650S is a large-room ultrasonic humidifier whose main risks are cleaning effort, the self-contradictory dishwasher claim and the fact that nobody outside Levoit has measured this exact model. Its running costs are filters and descaling supplies, with no published price or replacement interval. At $79.99 direct from Levoit it is a reasonable buy for a large room; the non-smart 650 at $69.99 is the better value if you will never use the app.

Common problems and fixes

Dishwasher contradiction — the page body says the removable tank and detachable tray are dishwasher-safe, while the feature list on the same page says only the detachable tray is dishwasher-safe and the water tank and silencer cover are hand-wash only; the warranty excludes dishwasher damage unless the manual expressly states the product is dishwasher safe. Fix: hand-wash the tank and silencer cover. [1][5]
Warranty excludes wear items — the warranty excludes normal wear items such as filters, the cleaning brush and essential oil pads, and excludes water or dishwasher damage unless the manual expressly states the product is dishwasher safe. Fix: keep the receipt and file claims through the 2-year limited warranty. [5]
No independent measurement of this model — no instrumented test of the exact 650S exists, so the 536 ft² coverage and 62 h runtime figures rest on Levoit’s internal lab testing; the tested Classic 300S is a different unit. Fix: read those figures as lab numbers, not measured results. [1][3][9]
No published wattage — the 650S page publishes neither input wattage nor voltage, so its electrical draw is unconfirmed; the sibling 650 lists 30 W. Fix: check the unit label before budgeting electricity. [1][2]
No downloadable manual PDF — Levoit’s manuals page lists no NeoClassic humidifier manual, so the printed manual in the box is the only copy. Fix: keep the printed manual. [1][4]

Parts and consumables

Descaling pads and demineralization cartridges — Levoit sells these separately, but the pages checked do not confirm fitment for the 650S. [3]
Cleaning brush — included in the box and excluded from the warranty as a wear item. [1][5]

When it is a good buy

At or below $80, the 650S is a defensible buy for a bedroom or large room: 6.2 L tank, 320 ml/h output, 536 ft² coverage claim, ≤26 dB rating, 360° nozzle, night light, app and voice control are documented, and the 2-year warranty plus 30-day return window are unusually generous for an $80 appliance. [1][5][6]
The $10 gap to the non-smart 650 buys VeSync app control, voice control, Smart Scene, Auto Mode with a ±5% sensor claim, and a blue light-safe night light with adjustable color temperature; if you will use the app or the auto mode, the 650S is the right one of the two, and if not the 650 is the better value by $10. [1][2]
Against the NeoClassic 450S at $49.99 with 270 ml/h and up to 432 ft², the 650S is worth the extra about $30 only if the room is genuinely large. [3][8]
The NeoClassic Max Smart is also $79.99, with an antimicrobial water tank; the 650S instead offers a larger 6.2 L tank with 320 ml/h output and 536 ft² coverage. [3][7]
If you want a Levoit humidifier with published instrumented data behind it, the sibling Classic 300S is the better-evidenced choice at effectively the same money: TechGearLab scored it 73/100 and Consumer Reports rates it recommended for rooms up to 505 square feet, at the cost of lower stated coverage and no Smart Scene. [11][12]

Price reference: Levoit direct lists the 650S at $79.99, the 650 at $69.99, the NeoClassic 450 at $49.99, the Mini at $39.99 and the Max Smart at $79.99; the 650S offer is valid from July 2026. [1][2][3]
