Levoit Classic 300S: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-18

Summary

The Classic 300S is a 6 L top-fill ultrasonic cool-mist humidifier with app control you can ignore — it works standalone with physical controls. The recurring problems are tank and base leakage, hard tap water leaving white dust, and humidity readings that disagree with separate meters. Electricity runs $18.98–$56.94 a year depending on duty cycle, before water and aroma pads, and it is a strong buy at Best Buy’s $69.99 and an ordinary one at $79.99.

Yearly running cost

Electricity at the 26 W nameplate, if constant for 8 h a day over a year, is 75.92 kWh; at an assumed $0.25/kWh that is $18.98/year. Sustained 24 h/day nameplate load would be 227.76 kWh and $56.94 yearly. These are illustrations, not measured billing. Buying 0.5 gal/day of distilled water at an assumed $1.25/gal costs $228.13/year; 1 gal/day costs $456.25/year. A 16-pack of aroma pads at $14.99, at twelve changes a year, amortizes to $11.24/year. A scenario combining 8 h/day rated input and 0.5 gal/day distilled water costs $247.11/year excluding purchase, cleaning, oil, tax and labor. [1] [2] [7] [8]

When it is a good buy

Observed prices (October 2026): Best Buy $69.99, sold by Best Buy; Levoit US $79.99; Target $79.99. Editorial thresholds from the research: $60 or less is a good bargain, $61–$70 a strong buy if the cleaning routine is acceptable, $71–$80 an ordinary price. At $80 or more, consider the OasisMist 450S ($79.97 promotional, $89.99 regular) when warm mist matters, the Superior Studio 450 ($129.99 list, sold out direct) for an evaporative wick that tolerates tap water better, or Target’s 200S Dual at $44.49 for smaller rooms. Warranty note: Levoit’s written US warranty is two years for the original purchaser, while the Target listing states one year — verify serial-level coverage with Levoit if warranty is decisive. Levoit direct accepts returns within 30 days of delivery; the Target listing states 90 days. [5] [14] [15]
