Summary

An entertainment-first Android tablet built around a nine-speaker JBL system with a dedicated subwoofer, a 12.1-inch 2.5K 120Hz display and a 360-degree kickstand that doubles as a carry handle. Check the weight before you buy: at 775g it is awkward to hold one-handed, and the promised software support ends at Android 18.

Strengths

  • The nine-speaker JBL system is the standout: rich, punchy and loud enough to fill a room.
  • Notebookcheck calls the sound outstanding — the best tablet audio in years.
  • The 360-degree kickstand works in portrait and landscape and doubles as a carry handle.
  • The 2.5K 120Hz display is sharp, covers 99.2% sRGB and shows no PWM flicker.
  • Battery life is long: nearly 29 hours in Notebookcheck’s Wi-Fi test.
  • The metal build feels solid and throttling is minimal.

Weaknesses

  • At 775g and 22.7mm thick it is heavy and bulky — awkward to hold one-handed for reading.
  • There is no fingerprint sensor; face unlock is the only biometric option.
  • Software support ends at Android 18 — only 2 OS upgrades.
  • The USB-C port is USB 2.0: slow data transfer and no video output.
  • Cameras are average: 13MP rear and 8MP front are acceptable, not good.
  • No GPS on the Wi-Fi model — a step back from the Gen 1 — and no 5G version exists.

Sound and speakers

The reason to consider this tablet is the audio. Nine JBL drivers — four tweeters, three woofers and two passive radiators — sit in a housing on the back with a dedicated subwoofer. Notebookcheck rates the sound outstanding and calls it the best tablet sound system in years. PCMag says it gets seriously loud and stays clear at full blast, and found the Bluetooth speaker mode works well for parties. Tom’s Guide, which made it an Editor’s Choice, says the speaker quality “is music to your ears.” Dolby Atmos processing with Dynamic, Movie and Music modes is built in.

Performance, display and battery

The 12.1-inch IPS panel runs at 2560x1600 and 120Hz. Notebookcheck measured 680 cd/m² in everyday use — the 800-nit figure is a High Brightness Mode peak — with 1619:1 contrast, 99.2% sRGB coverage and DeltaE 2.6 color accuracy, and no PWM flicker. The Dimensity 7400 with 8GB of RAM handles streaming and casual use; Tom’s Guide says it is not suitable for heavy workloads. Geekbench 6 scores of 1114 single-core and 3413 multi-core put it well ahead of the Gen 1’s Helio G99.

Battery life is the other strong suit: nearly 29 hours in Notebookcheck’s Wi-Fi test, against Lenovo’s more conservative 15-hour YouTube claim. The 45W charger is sold separately.

Weight, handling and what is not in the box

At 775g this is a two-handed tablet. PCMag says it gets tiring to hold after a few seconds and is not for one-handed reading; Tom’s Guide calls it cumbersome for long periods. The 22.7mm speaker bump makes the thickness uneven, though the bump houses the kickstand, which rotates smoothly and holds position in both orientations.

In the box: tablet, USB-C cable and documentation. At Lenovo the 45W USB-C charger is $29.99 and the Tab Pen Plus is $49.99, and both are sold separately, along with the sleeve and wireless keyboard.

Is it worth it?

At $289.99 (Lenovo US, September 2026) it is a strong entertainment buy if audio matters: the speaker system is the reason to buy, and everything else is competent. Tom’s Guide listed it at $269.99 at Lenovo in September 2026. At the $399.99 MSRP announced in June 2026, the value weakens — the Dimensity 7400, 2 OS upgrades and USB 2.0 port are harder to justify at full price. If you want a light reading tablet or need GPS, look elsewhere; if you want a tablet that can double as a party speaker, this is the one to check.

Which model this is

This page covers the Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2, 8GB RAM / 128GB storage, Wi-Fi only, model ZAHT0078US in Celestial White, announced June 16, 2026. Do not confuse it with the original Tab Plus (TB351FU, 11.5-inch, Helio G99), the 13-inch Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 with Snapdragon 8 Elite, or the Idea Tab Plus, which is a different product line. US configurations include 6GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB and 12GB+256GB alongside this 8GB+128GB variant.
