LEM MaxVac 500: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-18

Summary

The problems owners hit are the seals themselves and the machine’s cooling limits rather than the pump: an r/Hunting owner reports generally good results but that some bags do not seal well, and the manual builds in cooldowns when bags melt or the unit overheats. Parts are its strength, with LEM selling the gasket, heater, both protective tapes, a maintenance kit and even the pump motor by exact part number, priced from $3.99 to $43.99 at the maker’s store in October 2026. New it was listed at $429.99 on LEM’s own storefront on 2026-10-18, so it is a bulk-processing tool: worth it for frequent large-batch sealing and overkill for a household that seals a few bags a week.

Common problems and fixes

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

The parts are cheap and the film is the variable. LEM lists the gasket foam at $9.49 each (two are replaced together), the heating element at $3.99, each of the two protective tapes at $3.99, and a maintenance kit at $29.49; a pump motor is $33.99 and a roll holder/cutter $43.99. No source publishes a yearly total, and film use is entirely usage-driven, so a typical owner’s yearly spend cannot be computed from the research. There is no subscription.

When it is a good buy

LEM’s own storefront showed the new MaxVac 500 at $429.99 and in stock on 2026-10-18, while the separate refurbished #1253 is listed with a one-year warranty instead of the new two-year one. [3][10] That is a high price for a household sealer, so it makes sense only if the 14-in bar, bulk bags and part-numbered spares are actually going to be used.
