Summary
A mid-large enameled cast-iron Dutch oven rated for 7-8 servings, safe on all cooktops including induction and in the oven to 500°F.
Strengths
- Independent testing rates the enamel the most durable of the pots tested.
- The largest handles and among the lightest bodies tested, at 11.9 lb for the 5½ qt.
- No seasoning needed, and the light interior makes browning easy to read.
- A limited lifetime warranty, with a discounted replacement even for owner damage.
- Works on induction and every other cooktop, and in the oven to 500°F.
- A Wirecutter staffer used the line for 16 years of regular cooking and called it a workhorse.
Weaknesses
- Tests found it cooks no better than a Lodge that costs a fraction as much.
- Enamel chips from thermal shock, metal utensils and abrasive cleaning, and chipped interior enamel makes the pot unsafe to use.
- Phenolic-knob versions only take 390°F, not 500°F, so check before high-heat bread baking.
- It is heavy and awkward to hand wash, at 11.9 lb even for the smaller 5½ qt.
- The Caribbean color is not in Le Creuset’s current US color list.
- No instrumented test of the exact 7.25 qt was found; results come from the 5.5 qt.

What the tests say
No instrumented test of the exact 7.25 qt was published, so the numbers come from the 5½-qt pot in the same line. What set it apart was durability, the largest handles and weight: 11.9 lb against about 15 lb for the Lodge. CNET tested more than 10 Dutch ovens over a few months and called the Le Creuset its splurge pick, noting the buyer pays a premium for the name.
Enamel care and warranty
The main failure mode is enamel chipping, tied to misuse rather than defects. Le Creuset’s own care page forbids thermal shock, metal scrapers and steel wool, and says a pot with chipped interior enamel is no longer safe. A Wirecutter staffer’s 16-year-old pot developed interior chips after cold-water shocks and abrasive cleaning but kept working. The warranty is limited lifetime for the original owner and excludes abuse, commercial use, neglect and abnormal wear; replacement in the same color is not guaranteed. Le Creuset generally offers a replacement at 75% off MSRP even when the damage is the owner’s fault. Cool the pot before washing, use soft utensils, and it will outlast most kitchens.
At Le Creuset’s SRP the 7.25 qt sits in the upper part of the $285.00 to $680.00 range for the Signature Round line. Wirecutter lists the 5½ qt at $455 (Nordstrom) and $435 (Wayfair), and notes the Le Creuset costs nearly five times the Lodge. CNET reports the line starting around $260 for the 2 qt, with roughly $400+ for a practical 4-5 qt. For a household of four to eight that will hand-wash and use soft utensils, the capacity and warranty can justify the price; for two to four people the smaller sizes make more sense.
Which model this is
This page covers the Le Creuset Signature Round Dutch Oven in the 7.25 qt size. The US Amazon listing for the Caribbean color is ASIN B00YUYY904, model LS2501-2817SS. That Caribbean color does not appear in Le Creuset’s current US color selector, so treat it as retired. Don’t merge it with the Signature Round Deep Oven (6.5 qt), the Round Wide Oven, the oval models or the enamel-on-steel stockpots.
