Summary
The smallest oval in Le Creuset’s Signature line, an enameled cast-iron pot rated for one or two servings and safe on every cooktop including induction. Independent tests cover the 5.5 qt round rather than this oval, so check the size and the shape against your stove before you buy.
Strengths
- The light interior enamel makes browning easy to read.
- The stainless steel knob is rated for any oven temperature.
- Works on induction and every other cooktop, and on an outdoor grill.
- A limited lifetime warranty, with a discounted replacement even for owner damage.
- The oval fits a long roast like a tenderloin that a round pot fights.
Weaknesses
- Rated for only 1-2 servings, so it is a niche small pot, not a family Dutch oven.
- No independent test of the 2.75 qt oval was found; the brand’s tests cover the 5.5 qt round.
- Oval pots can heat less evenly and fit awkwardly on a small round burner.
- Enamel chips from thermal shock and metal utensils, and the pot is heavy for its size.
- Dimensions conflict between sources: a retailer lists the pot at 9 in long and 8.6 lb, while another source lists 13 in across and about 7.3 lb.

What the tests show
No instrumented test of the 2.75 qt oval was found. The independent coverage is for the 5.5 qt round. Wirecutter names that round its upgrade pick, calling it the most even cooker tested, with the most comfortable handles and the most chip-resistant enamel. Good Housekeeping gave Le Creuset a high heat-distribution score, and its staff report 20+ years of use with no loss of performance. Consumer Reports rated the Traditional Round 5.5 qt Excellent for heating speed and bread baking. None of it directly validates this small oval.
Oval versus round
Wirecutter warns that a round Dutch oven suits the round burners of most stoves, while an oval “may heat less evenly and be difficult to fit on a small stovetop”. The oval earns its keep for long roasts like a tenderloin. At 2.75 qt this is a secondary vessel or a pot for one or two people, not the family braiser.
Enamel is the part that fails, usually from misuse: cold water on a hot pot, metal utensils, steel wool. Le Creuset says hand wash it even though it is dishwasher-safe, and its warranty covers defects for the original owner; the company generally offers a replacement at 75% off SRP even when the damage is the owner’s. Manufacturer SRP for the 2.75 qt oval is about $315 at third-party retailers, and Sur La Table lists it there. Good Housekeeping lists the larger 5.5 qt round at about $435, with Wirecutter at $455 (Nordstrom) and $435 (Wayfair).
