Summary
A compact plug-in ceramic heater for a desk or small room, with 1,500W and 900W settings, a dial thermostat and a tip-over switch. Check the model number before buying: the cheaper 754200 looks similar but is a different heater.
Strengths
- Full 1,500W heat from a 9.2-inch enclosure, with 900W and fan-only options.
- A real tip-over switch, specified for this model and described in its own manual.
- Mechanical controls need no app, pairing or remote batteries.
- Three-year warranty, longer than many digital alternatives.
- Low initial cost when discounted; Walmart listed it at $39.99 in September 2026.
Weaknesses
- The thermostat is a relative dial, not a temperature display; expect trial and error and on/off cycling.
- No timer, oscillation, remote or digital target temperature.
- Lasko requires a direct wall outlet — no extension cord, power strip or surge protector.
- The 100-sq-ft coverage rating is modest; placement and insulation matter.
- A February 2026 ShopSavvy summary says some users reported fan motors failing after months and initial plastic odor.
- Walmart’s review page mixes the 754201 and the 754200, so its pooled score is not a 754201-only reliability sample.

Controls, safety and placement
The thermostat has a relative dial, not a temperature display. Lasko’s instructions say to heat the room, then turn the thermostat down until the heater stops; expect trial and error and normal on/off cycling. The mode knob selects high, low or fan-only. There is no timer, oscillation, remote, ECO program or digital target temperature.
Lasko requires a direct wall outlet: no extension cord, power strip, surge protector or other plug-in adapter. Keep combustible items at least 3 ft from the front and 1 ft from the sides and rear. Do not leave the heater unattended. The manual excludes bathrooms, laundry rooms and other damp places. Tip-over and overheat protection do not make unattended operation safe.
Running costs and upkeep
Electricity is the main expense; the heater consumes no fuel or replacement filters. At the EIA July 2026 US residential average of $0.1831/kWh, running continuously costs about $0.275 per hour on 1,500W high or $0.165 per hour on 900W low. An illustrative 2 hours a day for 120 days works out to 360 kWh ($65.92) at high or 216 kWh ($39.55) at low; the thermostat may cycle off, and actual rates and hours differ. There is no mandatory subscription or regular paid consumable.
Lasko recommends vacuuming the intake grilles every two weeks. A dirty grille can trigger repeated shutdown. The manual says repeated shutdown after a few minutes can indicate obstructed or dirty intakes; the thermal protector can latch off until you unplug the heater and wait 10 minutes.
Parts and warranty
There are no scheduled consumables or replaceable air filter. The mode knob (OEM 75420101) is listed by Encompass for this exact model, though price and stock are not verified. The thermostat knob (OEM 75420102) showed $5.95 at GenuineReplacementParts but zero stock in October 2026. Lasko’s manual says not to disassemble the heater. No verified consumer replacement price exists for other internal components.
The three-year limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship. Lasko may repair, replace parts or replace the product. Proof of purchase and prior return authorization are required. You pay shipping to Lasko; Lasko pays shipping back after covered service. Accident, misuse, unauthorized repairs and commercial use are excluded. Lasko’s warranty page says online claims receive a response within one business day, though this is the company’s stated target, not an independently verified turnaround.
Is it worth it?
At $35 or less for a new, genuine 754201, it is a good buy, especially when the tip-over switch matters. At $35-$40 it is reasonable. Above $45-$50, the Dreo Atom One at $49.99 offers a digital thermostat, 70-degree oscillation, a remote and a 1-12h timer, though its advertised warranty is 12 months versus Lasko’s three years. Lasko lists it at $49.99, and Walmart listed the gray 754201 at $49.99 in October 2026. A ShopSavvy snapshot from September 23, 2026 had Walmart at $39.99 and Sears at $56.09. The cheaper Lasko 754200 at $36.43 from Home Depot is a different model; do not infer its features from the 754201.
Which model this is
This page covers the Lasko 754201, a dark-gray ceramic space heater with a tip-over switch. Do not confuse it with the silver Lasko 754200, which is a different model. Product listings and Walmart reviews sometimes combine both variants. Lasko’s heater-recall list, last updated April 22, 2024, does not name the 754201.
