KRUPS Simply Brew 10-Cup Coffee Maker (KM203D50): problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-17
Summary
The KM203D50 is a one-button 10-cup drip coffee maker with a glass carafe, a reusable cone filter and a one-hour warming plate, sold at $39.99 on Home Depot’s October 17, 2026 listing. The recurring complaint is brew temperature: Consumer Reports’ exact-model test found it fell short of holding 195°F or more for five to six minutes, and owners report weak-tasting coffee. Running cost is dominated by the coffee itself; electricity is about $8.76 a year at one full pot a day, and the machine has no pods or required disposable filter.
Common problems and fixes
- Glass carafe breakage and replacement fit — a 2023 Reddit owner broke the carafe soon after buying this same model and struggled to find a fitting replacement; when KRUPS was out of stock, a substitute shipped from elsewhere cost about $33. The manufacturer lists the bare glass pot at $10.20 before shipping. [10][12]
- Water drip, basket overflow and poor flow — KRUPS’s own troubleshooting identifies grounds ground too fine, too much coffee, paper used together with the permanent filter, scaling, or a stuck or dirty anti-drip valve as causes. Use a medium drip grind, the correct filter, the correct dose, and reseat the carafe promptly; persistent leakage from below the base is a service issue. [1][2]
- No automatic morning start or brew-strength control — this is a manual switch, unlike the programmable KM205D50; check the model label before comparing adverts. [1][2][3]
- Warm hold ends one hour after the cycle starts — so remaining warm time after a full pot is shorter than an hour, and “two-hour” claims on some listings relate to other products. [2][5]
- “10 cups” is about six mugs — ten 5-fl-oz coffee-maker cups is roughly 50 fl oz (Consumer Reports measured 51 fl oz), before liquid absorbed by grounds, not ten 8-fl-oz drinking mugs. [2][3]
- Reusable mesh filter can pass fines — a customer reported sludge in the pot with the mesh filter and a fine grind; switching to a correctly sized No. 4 paper filter (supported by the manual) may help. [2][7]
Parts and consumables
- Permanent cone filter, SS-9100043137 — $4.00 at KRUPS’s accessories store (October 2026); rinse after each brew and replace on damage, excessive clogging or loss. No fixed life specified. [9]
- Glass coffee pot without lid, FS-3203000084 — $10.20 at KRUPS’s accessories store (October 2026); 1.5 L compatible replacement. Replace if broken, cracked or the handle is loose, not at any regular interval. [10]
- Coffee-pot lid, FS-3203000083 — $4.00; the carafe above is sold without a lid. [1][10]
- Measuring spoon, FS-9100037946 — $3.00; not mandatory, a kitchen scale or another scoop works. [1]
- Filter stand/holder, FS-3203000082 — $4.00; replace if damaged or unable to support the removable filter correctly. [1]
- Warming plate FS-3203000099 ($5.90), switch FS-3203000096 ($4.30) and heater source FS-3203000085 ($19.40) — internal service parts from KRUPS’s compatible spare-parts listing, not routine consumables; repair labor and shipping can exceed the price of a new machine. [9][11]
Yearly running cost
There is no paid subscription, proprietary pod or required disposable filter for the KM203D50, so the major recurring expense is coffee itself. Electricity is illustrative: at the 900 W rating and Consumer Reports’ roughly 8-minute brew duration, a full pot uses about 0.12 kWh, or about $0.024 at an assumed $0.20 per kWh; 365 daily pots would be about 43.8 kWh or $8.76 per year for brewing alone, and warm-hold energy was not independently measured. For coffee, the manual suggests one scoop per 5-fl-oz cup and the manufacturer FAQ suggests 7 g per cup; a nominal full 10-cup pot every day at 70 g would be about 25.55 kg (about 56.3 lb) of ground coffee per year, about $563 at an assumed $10 per pound, and about $281.50 for a half-size pot. Descaling with the FAQ recipe uses 3 L of vinegar per year monthly or 1 L quarterly, cost depending on the product chosen. Replacing a broken original carafe adds an observed $10.20 before shipping, not a scheduled annual charge. [1][2][3][9][10]
When it is a good buy
Alternatives: the BLACK+DECKER CM1070B-1 12-cup programmable at $31.97 adds scheduled brewing and a stronger-brew control; the Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Switch at $22.97 promotional (some Walmart displays show $32.44) is a basic on/off brewer; the Mr. Coffee 12-cup programmable with 3 ways to brew is at $49.97.
