Summary
A 6-quart air fryer with a reversed footprint — 17.78 inches deep but only 10.2 inches wide — built to slot into narrow gaps between appliances. Check your counter geometry and your household size before buying: it cooks well for two, and a mandatory preheat cycle makes recipe timings unreliable.
Strengths
- The 10.2-inch width is real, corroborated by the manual and two independent measurements.
- TechRadar measured 50.4 dB, close to the Vortex Plus 6-in-1’s 51.7 dB in the same session; the manufacturer claims Quiet Mark certification.
- Top Ten Reviews scored it 8/10 for capacity and cooking performance and 9/10 for versatility.
- One owner reports cutting cooking times in half compared with his old air fryer.
- Tray and basket are dishwasher safe, and the manual gives explicit cleaning instructions.
Weaknesses
- Preheat is mandatory on four of the five programs, so recipe timings drift and one owner reports total cook time varying “by a lot”.
- The single tray handles grease worse than a two-basket design, and the rubber side grips soak up fat.
- Practical capacity is closer to 2–3 servings than the advertised 4 lb chicken.
- The control panel scratches and marks easily.
- The manual’s error-code section mislabels the product as the Vortex Plus, a copy-paste leftover.

Footprint and dimensions
The Slim’s distinguishing trait is its reversed body: 17.78 inches deep, 10.20 inches wide, 11.85 inches tall. Tom’s Guide measured the same three axes, and TechRadar printed identical metric figures, while retailer spec sheets circulate a different 12.01 x 15.31 x 12.72 orientation. The manual plus two measurements support the slim axes. If your counter has a narrow deep gap, this shape slots where a square 6-quart basket will not.
Preheat, timing and capacity
Four of the five programs route through a Preheat phase followed by an Add Food prompt; only Reheat skips it. Top Ten Reviews lists the resulting timing guesswork as a reason to avoid, and an owner in the mirrored review pool says total cook time varies “by a lot” because of it, while still saving time versus a cold oven. The manual also uses a Turn Food mid-cycle prompt: if the basket is not pulled, cooking resumes after 10 seconds, so cooking is not fully unattended on those programs.
Capacity is the clearest gap between marketing and use. The manufacturer claims a 4 lb chicken or a 2 lb bag of fries; TechRadar found room for a 1.3 kg (about 2.9 lb) roasting chicken and 2–3 portions of chips. One owner calls it “best for 2 people only”, and Top Ten Reviews says it is too large for a dorm room but not roomy for fries for three. The 4 lb figure is a physical maximum, not a practical recommendation.
Cleaning, smells and running costs
Running costs are low: no pods, filters or consumables, just oil and cleaning supplies, plus a replacement basket (part 210-1096-01) or tray (part 210-1078-01) if the non-stick coating wears. Tray and basket are dishwasher safe, but the rubber grips need hand-washing, the chamber is wiped rather than immersed, and 5 inches of clearance is required on all sides. The manual’s troubleshooting table attributes black smoke to low-smoke-point oil or residue on the coil and white smoke to high-fat foods or vapourising moisture, which explains the odour complaints in the owner pool without invoking a defect.
Is it worth it?
Tom’s Guide (2024-11) listed it at $119, also at Target, and gave it an Editor’s Choice award. TechRadar (2023-04) saw a $129.99 list price, and Top Ten Reviews (2024-02) listed $111.99, noting it often sells closer to $100. A mirrored-store snapshot taken 2026-10-13 showed $85.99, marked sold out. Under $90 it is an easy recommendation for the right kitchen. Above roughly $130 the case weakens, because the Vortex Plus adds a viewing window, a light, a progress bar, OdorErase and dehydrate for a modest premium — and the Slim’s only unique win is the 10.2-inch width.
Which model this is
This page covers the Instant Vortex Slim 6QT, SKU 140-3100-01, manual code AFB6002BK — the same platform sold in the UK and Australia as the Vortex Slim 5.7L. Do not confuse it with the Vortex Plus 6QT, which adds ClearCook, OdorErase and a progress bar, or with the Walmart-exclusive Vortex Slim Chef Series 6QT, which has only 3 functions.
The US listing is ASIN B0BBXB2R63.
