Summary

A 7.5-quart multi-cooker for people who sear and batch-cook more than they pressure-cook, with a wide pot, 1400 W heating and 9 functions including sous vide and cake. Check whether the wide base earns its counter space before you buy: the sealing ring is model-specific, 6-quart recipes and some accessories need modification, and no major outlet has instrument-tested this exact model.

Strengths

  • The wide pot gives about 35% more searing surface than a standard 8-quart cooker and fits 9-inch cake pans.
  • 1400 W is the highest output in the RIO line, and owners consistently name fast heating as a result.
  • The WhisperQuiet steam release is Quiet Mark certified and vents steam away from you.
  • The stainless steel inner pot (18/8, tri-ply bottom) replaces the nonstick coating on some other models.
  • Sous vide (77-203°F, 30 minutes to 99 hours 30 minutes) and cake functions come built in; neither is on the non-plus RIO Wide.
  • The display is the most detailed in the RIO line, with a progress bar and an “OK to Open Lid” message.

Weaknesses

  • The sealing ring is model-specific; rings from other Instant Pots do not fit, and an unauthorized ring may void the warranty.
  • The inner pot has no handles, so lifting it hot takes silicone mitts or hot pads.
  • There are no lid-storage fins, so the lid sits on a plate or the counter during sautéing.
  • The Duo Crisp Ultimate air fryer lid is not compatible with this model.
  • The wider pot changes the cooking math: some 6-quart recipes need modification and extra liquid to reach pressure, and some steamer baskets are too tall.
  • The FOOD BURN notice can trigger with thickened sauces or too little liquid — an Instant Pot-wide issue, not specific to this model.

The wide pot and searing surface

The Wide Plus trades height for width: a 7.5-quart pot that gives about 35% more searing surface than a standard 8-quart multi-cooker.

The same shape costs you some familiarity. Some 6-quart recipes need modification, extra liquid may be needed to reach pressure because of the larger surface area, and some standard accessories such as steamer baskets are too tall for the pot. If your kitchen is built around a 6-quart Duo, expect an adjustment period.

What independent testing covers

No instrumented laboratory test of the exact Wide Plus exists from RTINGS, CNET or PCMag. Serious Eats tested 15 Instant Pots and recommended the 7.5-quart RIO Wide, again not the Plus.

Owner threads in r/instantpot and r/PressureCooking cover real-world use of the 7.5-quart RIO Wide and the choice between the Wide and the Plus; a ShopSavvy roundup adds rice-cooking starch residue, a larger cleaning footprint and cord management as cons.

Sealing rings, parts and running costs

The sealing ring (part 211-1004-01) is specific to this model — rings from other Instant Pots do not seal it, and using an unauthorized ring may void the warranty. Replace it every 12-18 months, or sooner if it stretches. That ring is the only recurring cost; there are no pods, capsules or subscriptions.

That is better parts support than many competitors offer, but it does not extend to the heating element or the electronics. The warranty is one year, and registration within 30 days is recommended but not required.

Routine upkeep is the usual Instant Pot list: wash the ring after use, clean the anti-block shield, float valve and steam release valve, and put the lid (top rack), inner pot, steam rack and sealing ring in the dishwasher.

Is it worth it?

At $129-149 the Wide Plus is competitive if you specifically want the wide base and 1400 W heating; $150-189 is fair for batch cooks and families who need 7.5 quarts; $190-200 is weak; above $200 it is poor value.

Instant Pot’s own store lists it at $189.95 (2026-10), Kohl’s at $199.99 and Crate & Barrel at $199.95. At $189.95 the Wide Plus sits at the top of the fair band; at Kohl’s and Crate & Barrel prices it is weak. The 6-quart Duo Plus is $139.99 at Instant Pot direct, with a larger owner base and the same core functions in a smaller body. The non-plus RIO Wide was $119.99 on sale at Crate & Barrel (regular $139.95) — the same wide pot without sous vide or cake. The Pro series adds a stainless lid, a better display and lid-storage fins at similar or slightly higher prices.

If you do not need the wide base, buy the Duo Plus instead. If you sear in volume or cook for a crowd, the extra searing surface and the 1400 W element make the Wide Plus the right tool — but shop a sale.

Which model this is

This page covers the Instant Pot RIO Wide Plus 9-in-1, model DPPC801GM (SKU 113-1020-01), the 7.5-quart wide multi-cooker with 1400 W heating. It is not the RIO Wide (7-in-1, SKU 113-1066-01, 1200 W) or the 6-quart RIO (SKU 112-0312-01, 1000 W); the Plus adds sous vide and cake functions, a progress-bar display and 200 W more heating than the non-plus Wide. The manual also calls the machine “Rio Plus Wide” internally, which muddles searches.

Retailer listings disagree about size. Kohl’s shows 11.73 × 16.34 × 15.35 in and Target’s listing shows 15.35 × 16.3 × 11.75 in; both appear to carry over the non-plus RIO Wide’s depth. The manufacturer and Pressure Cooking Today agree on 10.25 × 16.3 × 11.5 in — use those numbers when you measure your counter.
