Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

The Instant Pot Duo Plus 8QT is a 9-in-1 pressure cooker with an 8-quart pot, a quiet one-touch steam release and a guided control panel, aimed at families and batch cooking. Check the model number on the base before you buy: the older 8-quart Duo Plus, 113-0054-01, lacks the WhisperQuiet lid.

Strengths

  • The 8-quart pot handles up to 8 servings, batch cooking and large cuts of meat.
  • The WhisperQuiet lid cuts steam-release noise and puts the release on a single button.
  • Nine functions including sous vide, rice, cake and yogurt cover most one-pot cooking.
  • The 18/8 stainless inner pot has a tri-ply bottom that stays put for sautéing.
  • A 1-year limited warranty and a 25-preset guided panel come standard.
  • The box includes a steam rack and two spare sealing rings, so no parts purchase is needed on day one.

Weaknesses

  • The 75 dB and 15 PSI figures come from the 6-quart sibling, not the 8-quart.
  • The rice program overcooks at its default 12-minute setting and needs a shorter time and a different water ratio.
  • The sous vide mode cannot set or display water temperature, so a 90-minute creme brulee came out unset.
  • The inner pot has no handles, which makes lifting a full 8-quart pot harder.
  • The cake program produced a moist but lopsided cake, and only a 6-inch pan fits the pot.

What the 8-quart adds

The Duo Plus 8QT is the family-sized member of Instant Pot’s mid-range line, and the current generation carries the brand’s WhisperQuiet lid. The manufacturer identifies it as SKU 113-0058-01, lists 9-in-1 functionality and a 1-year limited warranty, and rates it at 1200 watts, 120 V, 60 Hz, UL and ULC listed. The older 8-quart Duo Plus, model 113-0054-01, does not have the WhisperQuiet lid and is still on some shelves, so the model number on the base is the thing to check.

The extra capacity buys cooking for up to 8 servings, batch cooking and gatherings. The inner pot is 18/8 stainless steel with a tri-ply bottom that resists spinning, so you can sauté and then pressure cook in the same pot. The control panel is angled, with a message display, a progress bar and 25 recipe presets that walk you through each step. The steam release is a single button. Functions are pressure cook, slow cook, steam, sauté, sous vide, rice, yogurt, cake and keep warm.

Programs that need tuning

The honest weakness of this model is evidence, not design. So the performance figures people repeat for this family, 75 dB steam release, 15 PSI and a dishwasher-safe inner pot only, belong to the 6-quart unit and should be read that way.

The 6-quart test is still useful because the two machines share the program set and the panel. The reviewer liked the touchpad and dial and called it a good everyday machine for a home cook who likes to experiment. The default 12-minute rice setting produced mushy rice, better at a 1:1.25 ratio and a shorter time. The sous vide mode cannot set or display water temperature, so a 90-minute creme brulee stayed runny and unset. The cake mode baked a moist but lopsided cake in a 6-inch pan, the only size that fits the pot. Steaming vegetables also took longer than the entry Rio, needing a higher pressure level and 20 minutes total. The realistic expectation is that the extra programs are usable once you calibrate them, not that they work out of the box.

Warranty and upkeep

Warranty terms are published and narrow. It is a 1-year limited warranty tied to purchases from authorized retailers within one year of the purchase or delivery date, whichever is later, and it is not transferable. Instant Pot Brands may repair or replace at its sole discretion, a replacement unit carries 12 months of cover, and the company states it is not responsible for shipping costs for warranty service. Service runs through 1-800-828-7280 or support@instantpot.com.

The inner pot is dishwasher safe, and the manufacturer publishes a cooking-time table with pressure levels, cook times, venting method and minimum liquid amounts by pot size, including 2 cups minimum for the 8-quart pot. Consumables are sealing rings and gaskets, and the box already includes two spare sealing rings. There is no app or subscription requirement for the on-device presets; a buyer who wants the presets in an app would need the Wi-Fi Pro Plus line.

This model has no verifiable US street price in this research pass. The manufacturer page carries no price and points buyers to Where to buy, and the retailer pages that would carry a price were not readable. The closest dated anchor is a 2019-2020 giveaway that stated a $159.95 retail value for the previous 8-quart generation. Tom’s Guide’s price box for the 6-quart sibling listed $139.99 at Macy’s, $142.21 at Lowe’s and $169.12 at Best Buy, against a $99 Rio as the entry reference.

Which model this is

This page covers the 8-quart Instant Pot Duo Plus with WhisperQuiet, SKU 113-0058-01. The Amazon listing is ASIN B09MZTSSR2. Do not confuse it with the Duo 8QT, a different machine with 7 cooking functions and 13 customizable programs, or with the older 113-0054-01, which lacks the WhisperQuiet lid.
