Summary
A 15.3-inch gaming laptop with a 16-core Intel Core i7-14650HX, RTX 5060 graphics and a 2.5K 180 Hz display, sold as the mainstream OMEN model since HP folded its gaming laptops under the HyperX brand. Check the price before you buy: HP’s store runs promotions that undercut the HyperX direct MSRP by hundreds.
Strengths
- The 16-core i7-14650HX delivers strong performance in independent testing.
- The 2.5K 180 Hz display is sharp and bright at 500 nits, with 100% sRGB coverage.
- The 70 Wh battery posts above-average battery life for a gaming laptop.
- The aluminum lid and compact form factor keep the footprint tidy.
- The keyboard is comfortable, with 4-zone RGB backlight and a numeric keypad.
Weaknesses
- The plastic chassis and keyboard deck flex and twist more than the price suggests.
- No Thunderbolt port and only one USB-C.
- The RTX 5060 runs at 115 W, competitive but not class-leading.
- No hardware MUX switch on at least some configurations.
- BIOS access issues and intrusive HP software show up in owner reports.
- At full MSRP it costs more than aluminum-bodied competitors.

Performance and thermals
An owner confirmed on Reddit that the RTX 5060 runs at 115 W TGP here, which is mid-range for the GPU class. For reference, Tom’s Hardware’s RTX 5070 configuration held 70–85 FPS in Battlefield 6 at High settings, native resolution, with DLSS Quality and frame generation, and 35 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 at ray tracing Ultra, 1080p. Thermals are a consistent strength: Tom’s Hardware, HotHardware and XpertPick all describe the chassis as running cool under load.
Display and build quality
The 15.3-inch panel runs at 2560 × 1600 with a 180 Hz refresh rate, 500 nits of brightness and 100% sRGB coverage, better suited to competitive gaming than the OLED variant’s 120 Hz limit. Windows Central measured 503 nits on the OLED configuration, matching the 500-nit claim. The lid is aluminum, but the chassis and keyboard deck are plastic.
Battery and ownership costs
The 70 Wh battery is not user-replaceable. PCMag measured 11h22m of battery life on their RTX 5050 configuration, and reviewers regularly praise productivity battery life, but nobody has published a figure for this exact i7 + RTX 5060 + 2.5K 180 Hz setup. Two M.2 SSD slots and two SODIMM RAM slots keep upgrades cheap; 16 GB is the minimum for 2026 gaming, and owners report that 32 GB adds $450 (r/gadgets, 2026). An Xbox Game Pass trial is included and turns into a paid subscription. The 1-year limited warranty covers parts and labor with no on-site repair, and HP’s service network is extensive.
Is it worth it?
Buy it on an HP promotion. HP US lists this configuration at a $1,999.99 MSRP, and store promotions have brought it to $1,399.99–$1,499.99; Tom’s Hardware saw $1,449.99 and $1,999.99 price points at HP US in September 2026. In that bracket the 180 Hz 2.5K display, 16-core CPU and cool chassis make sense. HyperX direct lists $2,299.99, and at that level the plastic chassis and single USB-C are harder to justify, with RTX 5070 configurations and OLED displays sitting nearby (Tom’s Hardware, Windows Central, 2026).
Which model this is
This page covers the HyperX OMEN 15 15-ga0762nr (HP part D20KPUA#ABA), released in December 2025 as the first OMEN 15 rebranded under HyperX after HP folded its gaming laptop lineup under that brand. It replaces the Victus 15, which cost about $800 (r/gadgets, 2026). Don’t confuse it with the AMD Ryzen 7 sibling 15-gb0261nr, the UK 24 GB variant 15-ga0003na, or the 2026-model-year OMEN 15 with Core Ultra, RTX 5070 and an OLED display.
