Summary

A budget wired over-ear headset with USB-C, a swivel-to-mute boom mic and a two-year warranty. Check the driver size before you buy: HyperX’s own marketing says 50 mm while the spec tab on the same page says 30 mm, and no independent test settles it.

Strengths

  • USB-C to USB-C connection with broad compatibility across PC, PS5, Switch, Mac and mobile.
  • Swivel-to-mute boom mic mutes by flipping it up, with no software needed.
  • Memory-foam leatherette cushions and stainless steel sliders at a budget price.
  • A limited two-year warranty is generous at this price.
  • Light at 0.6 lb (275 g).
  • A 3.5 mm extension cable is included for analog sources.

Weaknesses

  • HyperX’s own page disagrees on the driver size: marketing says 50 mm, the spec tab says 30 mm.
  • No independent test of the wired model exists, so the audio and mic are unverified.
  • The wired product page does not list Ngenuity support, so there is no EQ or spatial audio on PC.
  • Whether the wired mic shares the wireless model’s criticized mic hardware is unknown.
  • The frame is plastic, with stainless steel only in the sliders.
  • The included 3.5 mm extension cable’s length is not listed.

Driver size and what’s verified

The one concrete problem with this headset is that HyperX’s own product page contradicts itself. The marketing copy leads with “Big 50 mm Drivers”, while the technical specifications tab on the same page lists a 30 mm dynamic driver with neodymium magnets. The ROW page and the Xbox and PlayStation variant pages repeat the same 50 mm marketing over 30 mm specs, so it is not a rounding difference but a 20 mm gap.

No independent instrumented test of the wired Cloud Stinger 3 was found from RTINGS, Wirecutter, Tom’s Guide, CNET or PCMag, so nothing external settles the question. RTINGS reviewed the original Cloud Stinger and PCMag reviewed the Kingston-era model, but those are different headsets. Treat the driver size as unknown until someone measures a retail unit.

Microphone and software

There is no test of the wired model’s mic, but the wireless Cloud Stinger 3 uses the same name and has been reviewed by three outlets. PC Perspective called its mic compressed but good for game chat; CGMagazine called it tinny, quiet and aggressively compressed, and reported 2.4 GHz drops every 20 minutes. Tom’s Hardware criticized the wireless build as feeling a little cheap. None of that is direct evidence for the wired headset, which has no wireless radio to drop, but it hints that the mic is the weak point across the line.

The wired product page does not list Ngenuity software compatibility, while the wireless version does support it for EQ and spatial audio on PC. If per-game EQ matters to you, this model may not offer it.

Is it worth it?

HyperX.com listed the wired Stinger 3 at $39.99 in October 2026, down from its $49.99 MSRP. At that price it is a reasonable multi-platform wired headset: USB-C, a two-year warranty and HyperX’s comfort reputation do a lot of work. At $49.99 it is still fair, but the original Cloud Stinger and the Cloud Stinger 2 are known quantities that reviewers have actually tested. Above $50 the value weakens unless you specifically need USB-C and current-generation console support. The wireless version sat at $79.99, down from $99.99 MSRP, and competes with better-reviewed alternatives.

Which model this is

This page covers the wired HyperX Cloud Stinger 3, SKU BS1T5AA, sold in black and white and compatible with PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Mac and mobile. HyperX also sells a PlayStation-licensed version, an Xbox-licensed CloudX Stinger 3, and a separate wireless Cloud Stinger 3 with different drivers, weight and features. It is the successor to the Cloud Stinger 2 and the original Cloud Stinger.
