Summary

A mid-range 16-inch laptop family with 1920x1200 OLED or IPS displays, integrated graphics only and a 59 Wh battery. Check the exact SKU before buying: silicon, RAM, storage and display vary widely across configurations.

Strengths

  • Battery life leads the class: RTINGS measured about 15 hours of video on the AMD config, and CNET and PCMag measured 28 hours 19 minutes and 34:48 on 14-inch Snapdragon units.
  • OLED display delivers deep blacks, vibrant color and near-300-nit brightness.
  • Base Snapdragon configurations near $800-900 pair long battery life with OLED quality.
  • Lightweight for a 16-inch machine at about 3.52 lbs.
  • Memory, SSD, battery and wireless adapter are replaceable on the tested AMD unit.

Weaknesses

  • Integrated graphics only; no dedicated GPU for gaming or heavy 3D work.
  • Base four-core CPU is limited for heavily threaded workloads.
  • Dual speakers are thin and not very loud.
  • Standard 60 Hz refresh on most configs; 120 Hz only on the optional panel, and glossy OLED struggles with direct reflections.
  • RAM may be soldered on some configurations, limiting upgrades.
  • The family name hides wide SKU variation; compare exact configs.

Which model this is

This page covers the HP OmniBook 5 16-inch family, series “HP OmniBook 5 16 inch Laptop Next Gen AI PC 16-bm0000”. HP sells it in AMD Ryzen AI, Intel Core Ultra and Qualcomm Snapdragon variants, with 8-32 GB RAM and 256 GB to 1 TB storage. The supplied HP store URL is one configuration: Intel Core Ultra 9, 32 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, 16" 2K display, Sahara silver, product # DH8A7UA#ABA. RTINGS tested an AMD Ryzen AI 5 430 unit with 16 GB DDR5, 512 GB SSD and a 16" 1920x1200 OLED display. Do not confuse it with the 14-inch OmniBook 5 or other OmniBook lines.

Battery life

RTINGS measured about 15 hours of video playback and over 12 hours of light web browsing on the AMD config. CNET and PCMag measured 28 hours 19 minutes and 34:48 of video on 14-inch Snapdragon units. The Snapdragon config carries a 59 Wh battery with a 65 W USB-C GaN adapter.

Display

OLED configs are rated 300 nits; CNET measured 299 nits on a 14-inch unit. Color coverage reaches 100% sRGB and P3, 90% AdobeRGB. HP also offers a 2.8k 120 Hz OLED and a 400-nit 100% sRGB IPS. Entry IPS panels have a narrower color gamut. The glossy OLED deepens blacks but struggles with direct reflections.

Performance and upgrades

Graphics are integrated only: Radeon 840M/860M/880M, Intel Graphics or Adreno X1-45. The base Ryzen AI 5 430 has four cores. RTINGS found memory, SSD, battery and wireless adapter replaceable on the tested unit, but some configs use soldered memory. Storage runs 256 GB to 1 TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2. There is no dedicated GPU option.

Is it worth it?

Base Snapdragon configurations around $800-900 offer strong value given battery life and OLED quality. The tested AMD configuration scored 7.5/10 on RTINGS. The Intel Core Ultra 9 configuration lists at $2,299.99 and its value depends on need for x86 compatibility and higher RAM. Compare per exact SKU, since RAM may be soldered and displays range from 1920x1200 OLED to higher-resolution options.
