Summary
An Arm-based 16-inch Windows laptop that trades raw speed for battery life, quiet running and an OLED screen. Check the storage and the price before buying: the 256 GB base model fills up fast, and this machine is only good value on sale.
Strengths
- Battery life runs about 9.5 to 10 hours in real mixed use, far longer than most Intel laptops at the price.
- The 16-inch OLED panel is a standout for the money.
- It runs silently; the fan is rarely audible in normal work.
- The aluminum chassis and keyboard feel better than the price suggests.
- 65 W USB-C charging reaches about 50% in 30 minutes.
- The SSD and battery are user-replaceable with basic tools.
Weaknesses
- The 256 GB base SSD fills almost immediately; budget for a 1 TB drive.
- The X1-26-100 is Qualcomm’s entry chip, with weaker single-core speed than Intel or AMD rivals.
- RAM is soldered, so 16 GB is all you will ever have.
- There is no fingerprint reader, only IR face login.
- Both USB-C ports sit on the same side, and there is a single USB-A.
- Microsoft Edge with many tabs can slow the machine down noticeably.

Which model this is
The 16-bf000 is one of several 16-inch OmniBook 5 machines, and the names look alike. This one runs Qualcomm’s Arm-based Snapdragon X X1-26-100. The 16-bc1000 series uses Intel or AMD chips in a different chassis, and the 16-bz000 is the lower OmniBook 3 line. HP also sells an Intel Core Ultra 7 255U version of the same shell, which is the model PCWorld tested. The exact machine here is part number B81YMAV, running Windows 11 Home.
Battery life and performance
Battery is the reason to buy this laptop. HP claims up to 34 hours, but that figure is continuous 1080p video at 200 nits in one specific configuration; Paul Thurrott, who used the machine daily for two months, got about 9.5 to 10 hours of real mixed use. That is still a full working day and more. Performance is where the entry chip shows: CNET’s test of the OmniBook 3 16, which shares the X1-26-100, scored 2,140 single-core and 10,705 multi-core in Geekbench 6, and 96 single-core and 664 multi-core in Cinebench 2024 — in line with other budget Windows laptops, fine for browsing, documents and streaming, not for heavy editing. Thurrott found Edge with dozens of tabs could bog the machine down.
Display, keyboard and ports
The 16-inch OLED is sharp enough at 1920 x 1200 and covers 95% of DCI-P3, though 300 nits is modest and the panel does not lay flat, since the hinge stops short of 180 degrees. Thurrott measured a 91.4% screen-to-body ratio and called the keyboard excellent, with a soft-grey backlit layout and two brightness levels but no number pad. The large glass touchpad works well. Ports are the weak spot: both USB-C ports are 10 Gbps with Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4a, there is no Thunderbolt 4 or USB4, and the only USB-A is a single 10 Gbps connection with a drop-jaw cover on the right side. The audio jack does not take a microphone.
Storage, repairs and warranty
HP ships the base model with a 256 GB SSD, and Thurrott ran out of space almost at once and ordered a 1 TB replacement. The drive is easy to swap: the bottom cover comes off with four Phillips screws and a plastic pry tool, and the battery is customer-replaceable too. HP recommends a service provider for anything beyond the battery and SSD. The laptop carries HP’s 1-year warranty. RAM is soldered, so there is no upgrade path there.
Is it worth it?
At a sale price of $579.99 this is easy to recommend: OLED, all-day battery and near-silent running are rare together at that money. HP listed the base configuration at $699.99 at launch, with a 512 GB model at $749.99 and a 32 GB touch model at $899.99, and Newegg showed the base at $759.99 marked down from $1,179.99. Past roughly $750 the field evens out, because Intel Core Ultra and AMD Ryzen notebooks offer stronger single-core speed and more storage. Buy it for the battery and the screen, and only on sale.
