HP OMEN Gaming Laptop 16-ap0097nr: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-24

Summary

The HP OMEN Gaming Laptop 16-ap0097nr has no published defect rate for this exact SKU, so what is known comes from nearby Omen 16 configurations: heat above 90 C in Performance mode, touchpad problems and short battery life on older models, plus an all-plastic chassis and an average display in an independent review of a different configuration. No recurring running cost is quantified in the sources, so a yearly total cannot be computed. It is a good buy near the promotional prices of about $1,189.99-$1,199.99; at list prices near $2,594.99-$2,599.99 it is not competitive.

Common problems and fixes

Heat above 90 C in Performance mode (nearby configurations) — owner threads for other Omen 16 configurations report heat above 90 C in Performance mode; no exact-configuration temperature or sustained-performance data exists for 16-ap0097nr, so this is a chassis-family signal rather than a confirmed defect of this SKU. No fix or workaround is quantified in the sources, and whether heat damage is covered is not stated beyond the 1-year limited hardware warranty. [8][9][10][11]
Touchpad problems (nearby configurations) — owner threads for other Omen 16 configurations report touchpad issues; no exact-SKU defect rate was found, so 16-ap0097nr behavior is not established. No fix is documented in the sources. [8][9][11]
Short battery life (older configurations) — owner threads for older Omen 16 configurations report short battery life, and no exact-model battery test exists for 16-ap0097nr; CNET’s nearly 16-hour YouTube streaming result applies to a different configuration with a Ryzen 7 and RTX 5060. [7][8][9][10][11]
No exact-SKU reliability data — no defect rate, failure rate or prevalence data for 16-ap0097nr was found, and no exact-model service manual or parts availability data exists. [12][13]

Parts and consumables

No replaceable parts or consumables reported.

Yearly running cost

Not enough data. No filter, pod, subscription or other recurring consumable is documented for this laptop, and electricity, accessories and potential battery replacement are not priced in the readable sources. [8]

When it is a good buy

Promotional prices near $1,189.99-$1,199.99 (Slickdeals threads dated 2025-06-24 and 2025-10-15/22, with free shipping) are the best observed transaction prices and make the RTX 5070 / 32 GB / 1 TB / 240 Hz specification competitive. [4][5]
At $1,399.99-$1,499.99 before promotions (same threads), value depends on comparison with other RTX 5070 laptops and on whether the all-plastic chassis and average display are acceptable. [4][5][7]
At $2,594.99 (CDW product page) to $2,599.99 (HyperX product page, listed unavailable), the listing is not competitive against the observed promotional prices and should not be used as a value anchor. [2][3]
