Summary

A slim tower air purifier for rooms up to 200 sq ft, with a carbon pre-filter and two True HEPA cartridges. Check the filter bill before buying: genuine filters run roughly $70–$90 a year, and the unit is fully manual.

Strengths

  • Real two-stage HEPA filtration with an AHAM Verified 4.8 air changes per hour in 200 sq ft.
  • Quiet on low speed, which owners say suits a bedroom.
  • Owners report less dust, pollen and pet dander.
  • Slim tower footprint that fits tight spaces.
  • 5-year limited warranty, above average for the class.
  • Runs about 54 W at its highest setting and is ENERGY STAR certified.

Weaknesses

  • No timer, auto mode, air-quality sensor or smart features; everything is manual.
  • All-plastic build, and reviewers call the fan weak for the claimed room size.
  • Two HEPA cartridges plus a pre-filter push annual filter cost to roughly $70–$90.
  • The carbon pre-filter is thin, so odor and VOC removal is limited.
  • No independent lab test of the exact model has been published.
  • Opening the motor housing voids the warranty, and no user-serviceable parts are documented.

Filters and running costs

Two HEPA Filter G cartridges (HRF-G1) are needed each year at $29.95 each on the Honeywell Store, or $45.95 for a two-pack (HRF-G2). The Pre-Filter A (HRF-AP1) runs about $20.95, and compatible four-packs cost $12.95 a year. Budget roughly $70–$90 a year for genuine filters, plus about $20 a year in electricity at 8 hours a day. Neither the HEPA cartridge nor the pre-filter is washable, and the filter check reminder has to be switched on manually. Filters come out through the rear grille with no tools.

What it is and who it suits

The HPA030 is a budget tower for a bedroom or small living room. Owners praise it for quiet nights on low and for easing dust, pollen and pet dander, but the honest limits are the manual control set and the weak top-end airflow. If you want scheduling, an air-quality sensor or app control, this is not that unit.

Repairs, reliability and upkeep

Maintenance is simple: replace the pre-filter every 3 months and the HEPA cartridges every 12 months, wipe the outside with a dry cloth, and store it dry for long breaks. Repairability is minimal — the manual warns against opening the motor housing, which voids the warranty, and no user-serviceable parts beyond filters are documented. The all-plastic chassis is a common complaint about long-term durability.

The Honeywell Store listed the HPA030B at $149.95, marked down from $199.99, when checked on 2026-10-14; Meijer listed it at $149.99 and Best Buy at $174.99. At or below $100 it is a reasonable budget pick for a small room; $101–$130 is fair value, $131–$150 is weak, and above $150 newer units with more test data and features make more sense.

This page covers the Honeywell HPA030B, part of the HPA030 series, made by Kaz USA under license from Honeywell International and released in 2018. It is the slim tower in the Allergen Plus line, sold only in black.

The US Amazon listing is ASIN B076WYQZ8N.

Do not confuse it with the HPA020 tabletop, the HPA075, HPA080, HPA175 or HPA180 towers, or the console HPA100/HPA200/HPA300 series, which use different form factors even where they share some filter types.
