Summary
A compact 274-square-inch portable pellet grill with 12 V direct power and WiFi control for tailgating, camping and small patios. Check two things before buying: the DC cord for battery operation and the cart for standing height are both sold separately.
Strengths
- At 274 sq. in. and about 61.5 lb it is genuinely portable, not a full-size grill on wheels.
- 12 V direct power can run from a vehicle battery or portable power station when a mains outlet is not available.
- The GMG Prime 2.0 app adds WiFi control and monitoring from a phone.
- The 150–550°F range covers low-and-slow cooking and reaches a higher sear setting than many small portables.
- The 3-year warranty is longer than the 1–2 year coverage common on competing grills.
- It is one of the least expensive WiFi pellet grills from an established US manufacturer.
Weaknesses
- The 10 lb hopper is small next to the Ledge and Peak, which hold 20 lb or more, so long cooks need refills.
- The DC cord with alligator clips is not in the box, so running it off a battery costs extra.
- At 24 in tall it does not stand at cooking height without the separate cart.
- Only one meat probe is included; the larger Prime 2.0 models take dual probes.
- Nobody has published an instrumented test of this exact model, so temperature stability and heat distribution are unverified.
- The US shop page has shown the grill out of stock, so availability is uneven.

Full research notes and sources
What is in the box
The Trek ships as a grill body with stainless steel cooking grates, one meat probe, a grease bucket, assembly tools and an owner’s manual. The AC adapter is included. The 12 V DC cord with alligator clips, the Trek Cart 2.0, the pizza attachment for Trek/DC, a grill cover (GMG-6043) and a thermal blanket are all sold separately. Because the grill sits only 24 in tall, plan on the cart or a suitable table before you cook.
Powering it without an outlet
The selling point is 12 V direct power. The grill can run from a vehicle battery or a portable power station, but only if you buy the DC cord separately. The US catalog and dealer rate it at 2 W to 145 W; the NZ distributor lists 2 W to 165 W, a difference that likely reflects a regional or mid-cycle update. Keep the hopper lid, pellet dump and ash door closed while running, prime the firebox after the auger tube runs dry, and leave 36 in of clearance at the back and sides plus 48 in above the chimney cap.
Pellets and running costs
Recurring cost is pellets, sold in 28 lb GMG Premium bags, plus replacement grease tray liners and a cover for storage. Green Mountain Grills and the authorized dealer Meadow Creek BBQ Supply list the grill at $399. The NZ distributor lists it at $999 NZD and the EU distributor at 599 EUR. The optional accessories carry most of the real markup: the Trek Cart 2.0 at $199, the pizza attachment at $59.95 and the cover at $29.50.
Warranty and parts
The warranty runs 3 years from the date of first retail purchase and covers defects in workmanship and materials, with repair or replacement at GMG’s option. It excludes abuse, accident, misuse, cosmetic damage and commercial use. GMG keeps a parts catalog on its site and the dealer carries accessories such as the cover, thermal blanket and grease tray liners. Replacement-part prices for the Trek itself, including the auger motor, igniter and controller, are not published, and GMG does not say how long it will support the app.
Which model this is
This page covers the Green Mountain Grills Trek Prime 2.0, the smallest of the Prime 2.0 series beside the Ledge and Peak. It replaced the earlier non-Prime Trek line and is not the discontinued Daniel Boone Choice. The grill is sold through authorized dealers and the manufacturer’s own shop, and the US listing used here carries ASIN B095V7NKKH. Confirm the model name and voltage version, because GMG builds similar-looking grills for several regions.
