Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A small, knob-controlled ceramic personal heater with 1500 W and 750 W settings, a fan-only mode and a mechanical thermostat, sold directly by GiveBest. Check the price before you buy: the manufacturer’s own store lists it at $28.99 against a $79.99 compare-at, and no independent test has measured any of its claims.

Strengths

  • Two heat levels plus a fan-only mode cover a small room and summer airflow.
  • The mechanical thermostat cycles the element on and off, so you can set a rough temperature.
  • Both overheat and tip-over cutoffs are built in, and two owners in GiveBest’s hosted reviews say the tip-over switch works.
  • It is light at 2.9 lb and small enough to carry between rooms or take on trips.
  • Heat output draws praise for the size, with one owner comparing it favourably against a heater used for 15 years.
  • GiveBest hosts owner reviews describing about a year of use without failure.

Weaknesses

  • No remote, no oscillation, no timer and no room-temperature display; every control is manual.
  • The thermostat dial is a scale, not a readout, so you cannot confirm what temperature the unit is holding.
  • The 6 ft cord ends in a 2-prong, unpolarized plug rather than a grounded 3-prong one.
  • Neither a UL nor an ETL certification is documented for this unit, though Good Housekeeping’s buying guidance recommends third-party certification.
  • There is no independent instrumented test of the 200 sq ft claim, the 45 dB claim or the 750 W output.
  • The tip-over switch auto-restarts when the unit is righted, so it can resume heating unattended.

Heat output and controls

The heater has two heat levels, 1500 W and 750 W, and a third cool-air fan-only setting. A PTC ceramic element feeds a high-speed fan, and a mechanical thermostat adjustable from 0 °F to 158 °F cycles the element on and off rather than holding a set temperature. That dial range is a control scale, not an achievable room temperature, and there is no display to check it against.

All control is through knobs on the top: there is no remote, no oscillation and no timer. Another owner calls it “certainly only for a small room”. No independent measurement exists for the 200 sq ft claim or for the “under 45 dB” noise figure.

Safety, the plug and certification

Both overheat and tip-over cutoffs are built in, and the tip-over switch auto-restarts when the heater is uprighted. Two owners in GiveBest’s hosted reviews say the switch cuts the unit off when it is lifted or knocked, which is the one piece of safety hardware with direct owner confirmation.

The cord is a 6 ft 2-prong lead. That is an unpolarized, ungrounded plug, and no UL or ETL listing is stated on this product’s page even though a different GiveBest heater in the same store is described as ETL listed. Good Housekeeping’s current space-heater guidance says never to use a space heater on an extension cord and to look for third-party safety certification such as UL or ETL, which makes the plug and the missing certification worth checking before you buy.

Running costs, returns and warranty

Running cost is electricity. At the high setting the unit draws about 1.5 kW and at the low setting about 0.75 kW, but no efficiency figure or measured heat output is published, so draw cannot be converted into delivered heat. There are no filters, batteries or other consumables: no remote means no remote batteries.

Maintenance is not documented for this model. GiveBest lists no parts catalogue, replacement filters or service instructions, and this is a sealed, low-cost appliance with no published user-serviceable path. Warranty terms were not located. Returns are stated: most new, unopened items can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a full refund, and GiveBest pays return shipping only when the return is its own error.

Is it worth it?

At GiveBest’s own store price of $28.99 against a $79.99 compare-at, this is a low-risk way to warm a desk, office or bedroom, and the 30-day return window gives some cover. Around $40 to $60 it stays a reasonable commodity heater for a small space, still under the roughly $80 that buys Good Housekeeping’s lab-tested Vornado MVH Vortex. Above about $70 to $80 the case falls apart: that tier includes heaters with independent testing, grounded plugs and remotes.

GiveBest brackets its own range clearly. A GiveBest at $28.99 is genuinely cheap for the category; a GiveBest at $80 is not.

Which model this is

This page covers the GiveBest 1500 W portable ceramic heater with a thermostat, the silver unit listed by GiveBest as heating 200 sq ft. The listing this page covers is ASIN B0FJRYZRF5. No non-Amazon page indexing that string was found, so the identification rests on the match between the listing’s six key specifications and GiveBest’s first-party product copy. Do not confuse it with GiveBest’s other heaters, which have different dimensions and weight: a 350/450 W wall-outlet unit, a WiFi floor/wall heater, a 120°-oscillation wall heater, and a separate portable listing at 6.4 × 6.4 × 8.9 in and 2.8 lb.
