Summary

A compact all-metal mini PC built around AMD’s 12-core Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and Radeon 890M graphics, with upgradeable memory and storage and a dense port selection.

Strengths

  • Compact all-metal build with a dense port selection for the size.
  • Upgradeable dual-channel DDR5 memory and dual NVMe storage.
  • Dual USB4, dual HDMI 2.1, dual 2.5GbE, Wi-Fi 7 and a full-size SD 4.0 reader.
  • Idle acoustics and efficiency are strong in instrumented testing.
  • Editors’ Choice awards from PCMag and PCWorld.
  • A 3-year warranty backs the unit.

Weaknesses

  • The fan is clearly audible under load on the 2025 unit and measured louder than many competitors.
  • High DPC latencies can cause audio dropouts for latency-sensitive work.
  • Opening the case is awkward: screws sit under glued rubber feet and antenna connectors are fiddly.
  • The second SSD slot is M.2 2230 only, which limits second-drive capacity.
  • The USB4 power-in port may not run the unit from every USB-C charger.
  • GEEKOM’s cooling is branded IceBlast 2.0 on some pages and IceBlast 3.0 on others.

Performance and benchmarks

Cinebench R23 multi-core came in at 21,529 points and single-core at 1,989, with Cinebench 2024 multi at 1,203. An external SSD over USB4 measured 3,133.6 MB/s sequential read, and the SD reader averaged 163.31 MB/s. Wi-Fi 7 receive topped out around 1,607 MBit/s on 6 GHz. PCMag awarded it an Editors’ Choice in its Windows mini desktop category.

Noise and thermals

The fan is the main day-to-day compromise on the 2025 unit. Notebookcheck measured it as clearly audible under load and louder than many competitors, PCMag flagged it especially in performance mode, and PCWorld said it “revs up abruptly.” There is no manual fan control in the BIOS, only Performance, Balanced and Silent modes. Idle acoustics are near-silent.

Upgradeability and repairs

RAM, SSD and the WLAN module can be replaced, and storage is dual PCIe 4.0. Opening the case is the awkward part: bottom screws are hidden under glued-on rubber feet, and the internal Wi-Fi antenna cable connectors are fiddly. ITPro could not reseat theirs. GEEKOM backs the unit with a 3-year warranty and a 30-day return window on its UK store, but other regional pages have quoted different terms, so confirm the warranty at purchase. Nobody has published a failure rate for this unit, so treat long-term reliability as untested rather than proven.

Is it worth it?

The sharpest caveat is where you buy. GEEKOM lists this exact configuration at $999 direct, while Best Buy lists the 32 GB/2 TB unit at $1,499 and Newegg listed an HX 470 model at $1,799.99. TechRadar listed the base HX 370 2026 configuration at $1,399 from GEEKOM US with an 18%-off code, and Newegg had an HX 370 1 TB/32 GB unit at $1,099. ITPro in the UK tested a 32 GB/2 TB unit at £999.

At $999 direct the A9 Max HX 370 is competitive against other HX 370 mini PCs such as the Minisforum AI X1 Pro, which measured about 5-6% faster in CPU benchmarks but costs more. The dual LAN, dual USB4, SD 4.0 reader and 3-year warranty are meaningful at that price. Fan noise under load is the main compromise, and buyers in noise-sensitive rooms should weigh the Silent mode. There are no recurring ownership costs and no subscription lock-in; external storage and RAM upgrades are user-serviceable.

Which model this is

This page covers the GEEKOM A9 Max 2026 Edition with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, 32 GB of RAM and a 2 TB SSD, sold directly by GEEKOM and through other retailers. Its ASIN is B0GLF2KYKN. Do not confuse it with the earlier A8 Max (Ryzen 7 8845HS/8945HS) or the GT1 Mega (Intel Ultra 9 185H).
