Summary

A compact Windows mini PC built around AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 mobile processor, with 32GB of RAM, a 2TB SSD, dual USB4 and dual 2.5GbE.

Strengths

  • Workstation-class mobile performance: TechRadar edited 4K video in Premiere Pro and ran a Qwen 2.5 7B local model.
  • Generous connectivity: dual USB4, dual 2.5GbE, dual HDMI 2.1, four front USB-A ports and an SD reader.
  • User-upgradeable RAM (to 128GB) and storage (to 8TB) through two M.2 slots.
  • Low idle draw, measured at 4.7W by igor’sLAB.
  • A VESA mount is included for behind-monitor mounting.
  • All-aluminium chassis with a 3-year warranty on GEEKOM’s US and UK pages.

Weaknesses

  • Fan noise under load; PCMag, TechRadar and Gizmodo all note it.
  • 32GB of RAM is short for heavy 4K video work; TechRadar suggests 64GB or 128GB.
  • The Radeon 890M handles 1080p gaming at medium settings but not modern AAA titles at high settings.
  • No front USB-C; both USB4 ports sit on the rear.
  • The second M.2 slot is 2230, which limits SSD upgrade options.

What the HX 470 actually adds

The A9 Max 2026 Edition pairs AMD’s newer HX 470 with the same chassis as the HX 370 version. igor’sLAB called the HX 470 “essentially an HX 370 under a new name”, with only a 100 MHz CPU boost and a 200 MHz graphics clock increase, and Gizmodo measured roughly a 10% average lead. GEEKOM’s own Cinebench R23 numbers put the HX 470 at 24,980 multi-core against 23,786 for the HX 370. The NPU rises to 55 TOPS (86 TOPS total) from the HX 370’s 50 TOPS. If you do not need that extra speed, the older model is the better value.

Performance and thermals

TechRadar tested the HX 470 and recorded a PCMark 10 score of 8090, Geekbench 6 multi-core 12,099 and single-core 2,922, and CrystalDiskMark reads of 6,190 MB/s and writes of 5,525 MB/s, and it handled 4K editing in Premiere Pro without issue. Gizmodo transcoded 4K to 1080p in HandBrake in 3 min 37 sec. igor’sLAB measured 4.7W at idle and 83.9–92.0W under load, with a peak CPU temperature of 81.9°C and noise of 33.6 dB(A) idle and 39.7 dB(A) under load at 40 cm. PCMag found the fan loud in performance mode. The 890M is an integrated GPU, fine for 1080p at medium settings, not for AAA titles at high.

Upgrading and repairability

RAM sits in two SO-DIMM slots and can go to 128GB; storage runs through a 2280 slot and a second 2230 slot for up to 8TB. The Wi-Fi card is also replaceable. The CPU, GPU and motherboard are soldered and not user-replaceable. Opening the case takes four screws under the rubber feet, and PCMag noted the bottom panel feels less sturdy than the rest of the chassis. GEEKOM backs the machine with a 3-year warranty on its US and UK pages, though some regional storefronts list 2 years.

Is it worth it?

GEEKOM’s US store listed the HX 470 at $1,499 and the HX 370 at $1,399. In TechRadar’s May 2026 price check, Newegg listed the A9 Max at $1,499 and Walmart at $1,599, with a Geekom direct sale at $999 for the HX 370; igor’sLAB put the HX 470 at €1,563 in October 2026, and Gizmodo saw a $2,299 list price with sale prices near $1,609. At $1,199–$1,399 the machine is a strong premium mini PC; at $1,499 and up you pay a premium for a small uplift over the HX 370 while the 890M and 32GB stay the same. It is a productivity, content-creation, development and local-AI machine, not a gaming PC.
