Summary

A stainless steel AMOLED smartwatch that adds Forerunner-level training metrics, a built-in LED flashlight and up to 10 days of battery life to Garmin’s lifestyle line. Check the price and the two-button layout before you buy: it launched $100 above the Venu 3 and has no onboard maps.

Strengths

  • The bright 1.2-inch AMOLED display stays readable in direct sunlight.
  • The stainless steel case is a clear step up from the Venu 3’s polymer shell.
  • The built-in LED flashlight is a practical touch for night use.
  • Battery life reaches up to 10 days in smartwatch mode, well past Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch.
  • Forerunner-level metrics — Training Readiness, Training Load, on-wrist Running Dynamics — come to the Venu line.
  • The ECG app is a differentiator at this price.

Weaknesses

  • The $100 price increase over the Venu 3 is the most common criticism across reviews.
  • Garmin cut the button count from three to two, which reviewers call a downgrade during workouts.
  • The touchscreen-led interface gets fiddly when wet; Live Science called it “infuriating” on a six-hour hike.
  • There are no onboard maps — navigation is breadcrumb-style only — and no LTE variant.
  • The 41mm model rates 12 hours of multi-band GPS, low for a Garmin watch.
  • TechAdvisor reported the watch freezing on four occasions during strength training with heart rate tracking and music playback active.

Battery life and display

Garmin rates the 41mm Venu 4 at up to 10 days in smartwatch mode and up to 18 days in battery saver mode. The always-on display cuts that to about three days, and measured results cluster higher: TechAdvisor got roughly six days with always-on on the 45mm, Live Science about four days. TechRadar’s 45mm unit lasted about ten days with workouts, confirming the 12-day claim for the larger case. A full charge over the proprietary USB cable takes about 1.5 hours. Battery life is slightly shorter than the Venu 3’s because of the brighter display.

Training features and health tracking

The Venu 4 moves Forerunner-level metrics into the Venu line: Training Readiness, Training Load and on-wrist Running Dynamics, plus Lifestyle Logging, Health Status and Sleep Alignment. TechAdvisor measured heart rate within 1 BPM of a Garmin HRM 600 chest strap on treadmill and elliptical, and GPS lock took an average of seven seconds. Live Science called GPS tracking excellent and heart rate accuracy great across a marathon-distance run and a six-hour hike. The ECG app needs regional regulatory clearance, so confirm availability in your country; it can export PDF reports through Garmin Connect. Garmin Connect itself is free, with no subscription paywall for core training metrics.

Buttons, touchscreen and maps

Garmin dropped from three buttons on the Venu 3 to two on the Venu 4, and reviewers who train in rain or with gloves miss the extra button. The touchscreen-led interface draws the sharper criticism: Live Science found it infuriating when wet, with accidental inputs during a six-hour hike, and Tom’s Guide preferred buttons for swimming and running in rain. There are no onboard maps — navigation is breadcrumb-style only — and no LTE variant, so your phone stays nearby for notifications and LiveTrack.

Is it worth it?

The Venu 4 launched in September 2025 at $549.99 with a silicone band and $599.99 with leather, $100 more than the Venu 3’s $449.99 launch price. Best Buy listed the base model at $549.99 in December 2025 and $535 in October 2025. At $535, the upgrades — metal case, multi-band GPS, flashlight, training metrics — are easier to justify; at $599.99 for the leather band, the same money buys a Forerunner 570 with five buttons and runner-focused features. The Venu 4 wins on style, the flashlight and ECG; the Forerunner 570 wins on buttons and sport focus. Nobody has published long-term reliability data yet — the model launched in September 2025.
