Summary

A mid-back mesh task chair with fixed armrests and a fixed lumbar strip, built for short sessions at the bottom of the office-chair market. Check the weight capacity before you buy: published figures run from 240 to 265 lb depending on the source.

Strengths

  • The mesh back breathes: TechGearLab testers said it keeps your back from overheating, and an owner in r/carverscave called it “like a hammock for your back muscles”.
  • Gas-lift height adjustment and the 360-degree swivel are simple and functional.
  • The assembly instructions include a QR-coded video, and the Allen wrench is in the box.

Weaknesses

  • TechGearLab scored it 31 out of 100 and called it wobbly: “not a chair we recommend if you’re after all-day comfort”.
  • The fixed lumbar strips “aren’t connected and do not cover the space where your spine rests”.
  • Armrests are unpadded hard plastic, fixed, and move with the backrest when reclining.
  • The tilt lock works only fully upright, and the tension knob is awkward to reach while seated.
  • Assembly is fiddly: near-identical unlabeled screws and tricky washers.
  • The published weight capacity has drifted from 265 lb (2020) to 250 lb (2022) to 240 lb (current copy).

Comfort, lumbar and the three-hour ceiling

TechGearLab’s 2022 test measured about 3.00 hours of comfortable use, with comfort at 3.1 out of 10 and adjustability at 2.7 — 31 out of 100 overall, 17th of 18 chairs in its fleet. Its verdict: “not a chair we recommend if you’re after all-day comfort.” A March 2025 ranking placed it 18th of 18. The mesh back is the one part testers genuinely liked: it “keeps your back from overheating”, and one owner in r/carverscave described it as “like a hammock for your back muscles” for sweaty-back sitters. The advertised lumbar support is two fixed molded-plastic strips on the back frame; TechGearLab found the strips “aren’t connected and do not cover the space where your spine rests”, so the practical effect is minimal.

Weight capacity and certification claims

Published capacity has drifted: 265 lb in Tom’s Guide’s 2020 table, 250 lb in TechGearLab’s 2022 spec table, 240 lb in current mirrored listing copy. Plan around 240 lb until Furmax clarifies. The SGS-certified gas lift and BIFMA-passed five-star base are seller statements; no Furmax-specific certificate or test report was found.

Assembly and upkeep

Assembly took about 15 minutes per Tom’s Guide and 18 per TechGearLab, with the Allen wrench in the box and a QR code linking to a video. It is still fiddly: screws differ by a few millimeters and are unlabeled, and washers are tricky to seat. No warranty terms could be verified, and no replacement-parts channel exists for this model. Keep the screws tight; if the seat slowly sinks, the gas-lift cylinder is the usual suspect. That is generic chair guidance, not Furmax-specific data, and nobody has published a failure rate for this chair.

Is it worth it?

At $45 or less it is tolerable for occasional or short sitting, and $46–60 is fair value — that is where Tom’s Guide judged it the better value against its budget-class rival in 2020. Above $60 the case weakens: the same test fleet has chairs with adjustable lumbar support and padded, adjustable armrests at $80–170 with far higher scores. Tom’s Guide paid $54.88 for the red model in July 2020, with most other colors up to $59.99; TechGearLab’s 2022 list price was $60; a Marketplacia mirror of the exact SKU showed $39.99 in August 2026. Walmart lists a comparable Furmax mesh manager’s chair at $39.98 with a 250 lb capacity, though it is not a confirmed identical SKU.
