Summary

A dual-motor, 72 × 30 in sit-stand desk with a 1-inch writable laminate top on a steel frame, now sold under the Herman Miller name. The Dry Erase finish is no longer in the current first-party US catalog, so plan this as a legacy-stock or second-hand buy.

Strengths

  • A steel frame rated to 350 lb with a 1.5 in/sec lift speed.
  • The 72 × 30 in, 1 in top and a wide frame, size, handset and grommet matrix suit most rooms.
  • Reviewers describe it as sturdy and stable at full height.
  • Greenguard Gold laminate resists scratches and wipes clean.
  • A 7-year frame, motor and electrical warranty and 30-day returns back the purchase.
  • Parts are orderable and the manufacturer publishes assembly and reset guides.

Weaknesses

  • The Dry Erase finish is absent from the current first-party US catalog.
  • The frame warranty was cut from 15 years to 7, and the top only carries 5.
  • The writable laminate ghosts over time.
  • Standing-height stability is mixed, and the desk sways without a crossbar.
  • The desk weighs 50 to 100 lb, which makes assembly a two-person job.
  • The control box is the likeliest failure and a spare costs $80-120.

Frame, capacity and build

The frame is the strongest part of the case. Fully’s own specification for the 72 × 30 in 3-stage configuration is a 25⅝ to 51⅛ in travel range, a 1 in top, a 104 in cord, 350 lb rated capacity, 1.5 in/sec lift speed and a sub-50 dB rated noise level. Android Authority bought and assembled its own unit, describes the entire support structure including the legs, feet and connecting rails as steel, and reports it feels just as sturdy at full height as at sitting height. T3 called the build “SOLID” and resisted repeated lunges. TechRadar calls it a solid all-around offering with an impressive lifting capacity, and PCMag lists it as a perennial favorite.

One number deserves scrutiny. Treat 350 lb as the official number and the OEM figure as a caution about the true frame limit.

The top construction is a Greenguard Gold certified waterproof, scratch-resistant laminate over a high-density particle-board core made with 84% or more pre-consumer recycled fiber, bonded with low-VOC adhesive and finished with a German-made UV-cured topcoat. Android Authority is blunter: particle board and glue skinned in a tough plastic veneer, which can still handle quite a bit of abuse.

The writable top

The Dry Erase variant adds an erasable coating to that laminate family. Whiteboard specialists are clear about what that class of surface does over time: hardcoat laminate wears more slowly than plain melamine, but over time ghosting appears, and a competing guide says coated laminate is forgiving but can ghost if notes sit. Ghosting is driven by dirty erasers, erasing wet ink, the wrong marker or over-frequent use. The maintenance answer is unglamorous but documented: erase promptly with a dedicated felt or microfiber eraser rather than paper towels, clean weekly with a proper whiteboard cleaner, deep-clean monthly for ghosting, and avoid abrasive pads, wax and polish. No manufacturer document for the Jarvis Dry Erase top specifies marker compatibility, cleaning chemistry or expected erasable life.

A full-surface writable top also forces a tradeoff. An owner of a competing dry-erase-topped standing desk put it plainly: the top could be used as a white board, but you would not want to use it as a surface to put things on without smudging it. If writability is occasional rather than constant, a standard laminate top plus a separate board is the more flexible route.

Availability and warranty

The single most consequential thing a listing will not tell you is that the Dry Erase finish is no longer in the current first-party US catalog. The Herman Miller laminate page offers exactly six finishes — Black, White, Oak, Walnut, Maple and Stone — and the buying guide names only bamboo and laminate as tabletop materials, with the laminate in six finishes. Yet the Dry Erase top still appears in retail catalogs across several sizes and in resale listings describing an exclusive whiteboard top. A quality inspector who tracks the brand explains that during the 2022-2023 MillerKnoll consolidation a bunch of smaller SKUs got retired, including older frame revisions, some laminate options and certain accessories. The consistent reading is that this is a legacy or specialty finish. Plan the purchase around remaining stock, not a configurator order.

The warranty has also been cut. Wirecutter states that Herman Miller shortened the warranty on the desks from 15 years to 7 years. The current US tier sheet is 1 year on power grommets and surge protectors, 5 years on tops, and 7 years on frame components, mechanical parts, motors and electrical components. The product page displays “up to lifetime warranty” in its warranty field while the specification bullet below says the 1, 5 and 7 year tiers — a contradiction on the manufacturer’s own page. The top, the component that makes this variant what it is, sits in the 5-year tier.

Is it worth it?

Observed storefront anchors for 72 × 30 in laminate configurations cluster from about $820 to $995: the Herman Miller brand page lists the laminate Jarvis at $1,095.00 to $1,575.00, 25% off to $821.25 to $1,181.25; Design Within Reach lists it at $993.75 from a $1,325 reference; Abunda lists 72 × 30 in white and black laminate configurations at $884 and $894; and Wirecutter quotes $1,069 for the Jarvis Laminate. The Herman Miller store lists the item at $1,295. No price for the exact Dry Erase configuration was found from any first-party channel, consistent with it being out of catalog.

The recommendation splits by band. In the $500-650 promotional range The Verge documented for the Jarvis whiteboard and bamboo desks, a Dry Erase 72 × 30 is an outstanding buy. Between $820 and $950 it is reasonable for someone who needs the footprint, wants a writable top and checks whether the unit includes a crossbar. From $950 to $1,100 the case gets thin — this is the price-and-warranty arithmetic that made Wirecutter drop the Jarvis as a pick, while noting that many Wirecutter staffers own Jarvis desks and are happy with them. Above roughly $1,100 to $1,300, the laminate variant is hard to justify against Uplift’s customization or a frame-only Jarvis paired with a top you choose yourself. Resale is another drag: a reseller reports the laminate tops are basically worthless, with used frames selling for about 50-60% of the original price.

Which model this is

This page covers the Fully Jarvis Standing Desk with the 72 × 30 in Dry Erase top on the 3-stage frame, the variant with a 25⅝ to 51⅛ in travel range. Three frame options ship with the same top: 3 Stage, 3 Stage Low and 2 Stage, each with different travel, so match the frame to your height before ordering. The Dry Erase top is laminate, not bamboo, EcoTop or hardwood, and those are separate tops on the same frame.

The Amazon listing for this configuration is ASIN B09931DL3W.
