Fully Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk 60 × 30: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-15
Summary
The desk is mechanically sound: owners consistently report stiff, quiet, smooth operation with no motor, control-box or handset failures reported anywhere in the research. It is a good buy only on sale — near $1,100 or below — not at list.
Common problems and fixes
- Assembly effort — the most consistent complaint. T3’s build took about two and a half hours across 13 stages and needed a second person for the final flip; Tom’s Guide took about half an hour, roughly twice as long as the Vari. Fix: set aside an afternoon, have a helper for the flip, and supply a Phillips screwdriver plus a drill if fitting the cable tray. [6][8]
- Frame-size ordering errors — an owner assembled the whole desk before finding the mid-range frame sat far too high for a 5-foot-3 user. The two frames look identical; the manual distinguishes them. Fix: order the frame for your height range first. (Fully-era service note: that owner bought the extended-range frame alone for $20 more and had the old frame collected by FedEx with shipping covered; treat it as a Fully-era data point, not current Herman Miller Store policy.) [7][4]
- Touch-only controls — an owner would have preferred tactile buttons to the touch-sensitive OLED handset; a minor quibble, not a defect. [7]
- Warranty reduction — Herman Miller cut the warranty on these desks from 15 years to 7 years. Not a mechanical defect, but the largest long-term downgrade for owners; no fix, only a purchase-timing consideration. [2]
- Lead time — 13 weeks via standard delivery for the checked 60 × 30 configuration, not shown in short marketplace listings. [1]
Parts and consumables
- Jarvis caster — $10 at the Herman Miller Store, read October 2026. Replaces the pre-installed leveling glides on the feet when fitted. [1]
- Fully clamp-mounted surge protector — $95 at the Herman Miller Store, read October 2026; carries 1 year of warranty coverage. [1][4]
- Powered grommet (AC outlet, USB-A and 18 W USB-C) — sold as a configuration option at purchase, 1 year of warranty coverage. [1][4]
- No published parts list exists for lifting columns, control boxes, handsets or motors, and the manual forbids opening those components. Fully sells a replacement-parts category under the Jarvis collection. [1][4]
Yearly running cost
Electricity for the dual lift motors and the occasional paid spare part are the only recurring costs. The manufacturer publishes no motor wattage or standby power draw, so an electricity figure cannot be computed from the available data. Parts are rare: the only priced spares are the caster at $10 and the surge protector at $95 at the Herman Miller Store, read October 2026. Accessories that add to total ownership cost: Jarvis single monitor arm $195, dual monitor arm $275, single arm with laptop tray $325, dual arm with tray $395, read October 2026. Budget roughly $0–100 per year depending on whether anything needs replacing. [1]
When it is a good buy
- At roughly $1,100 and below: strong. Wirecutter’s softened verdict is exactly conditional on this: “if you can find a Jarvis desk on sale and are okay with the shorter warranty, it may be worth buying.” [2]
- At the low end of the current range ($1,245–$1,400): defensible only if the specific bamboo size and handset configuration you need is not otherwise available; you pay a premium over the 60-inch bamboo Uplift V3 at $890 and the 58-inch Branch Duo at $750 (Wirecutter comparison table, January 2026). [2][1]
- At full list ($1,500–$1,725): weak. Same-family laminate desks start at $1,195, and the 7-year frame warranty against Branch’s 10 years is the specific argument against paying list. [1][2]
- Historical anchors for a real discount on this line: $509 against $599 in March 2022, and $454.30 against $649.00 at Fully’s April 2023 closing sale. [8][5]
- Alternatives: the Uplift V3 is the better-evidenced buy at $890 for a 60-inch bamboo top if you want the same height-range coverage for hundreds less; the Branch Duo at $750 for a 58-inch top is the better choice in small spaces. [2]
