Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A two-leg electric standing desk with a solid bamboo top that reaches 51 inches, sold now by the Herman Miller Store as the Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk, Rectangle. Check whether the advertised 7-year frame warranty still gets honored before you buy: the company behind it, Fully, shut down in 2023.

Strengths

  • Reaches 51 inches, 2.3 inches higher at the top than the Uplift V3’s 48.7-inch maximum.
  • Solid bamboo top with a German-made UV-cured coating, the differentiator from the laminate Jarvis on the same frame.
  • Quiet on paper: under 50 dB without the top, on a dual-motor 3-stage frame.
  • Four programmable height presets on the OLED handset.
  • An office buyer running Jarvis desks daily since 2022 reports zero motor failures and zero structural issues.
  • Minimalist two-leg form; owners planning a second unit cite the height range over a FlexiSpot.

Weaknesses

  • No instrumented lab test of this exact configuration exists, and Tom’s Guide’s 27-desk guide omits it entirely.
  • Sway near the top of the range, reported as slight at 42 inches and more noticeable by 48.
  • Controller failure is the most-reported hardware fault, and a $99 third-party controller is the cited fix.
  • Bamboo top hardware: screws run short and the black plastic threaded inserts seat inconsistently.
  • The advertised 7-year frame warranty is disputed since Fully.com shut down in April 2023.
  • Price sits well above two-leg rivals: Herman Miller lists $1,245 to $1,725 for the bamboo line.

Height, frame and the paperwork

The 48 × 30 bamboo sits on a 3-stage dual-motor frame that runs 25½ to 51 inches. The 23-inch figure belongs to the 3-stage-low frame, and the 24.5 to 50-inch range in the manual is the frame without the desktop.

The marketed 350 lb capacity conflicts with the assembly manual’s 1000 N, about 225 lb, for both Jarvis frames; no source reconciles the two, so treat 350 lb as a marketing figure. The same manual limits duty cycle to 10% with a maximum of 2 minutes on, a limit absent from the marketing copy. Failing to install the leg extension cable can cause irreparable damage, and a reset procedure covering the control box, leg cables and connections is still published on Fully’s legacy support site.

Warranty and who stands behind it

Fully was founded in Portland in 2006 as ErgoDepot, became Fully in 2016, was acquired by Knoll in August 2019 and became part of MillerKnoll after the 2021 merger. Fully.com shut down on 20 April 2023 and the Jarvis line moved to the Herman Miller Store and Design Within Reach; www.fully.com now redirects to the Herman Miller Store brand page. The retail page still markets the tiered warranty, 1 year on power grommets and surge protectors, 5 years on tops and 7 years on frame components, mechanical parts, motors and electrical. A specialist review says claims now go nowhere in practice and frames the purchase as self-insured against failure. This is a warranty that is advertised and disputed, not one confirmed dead.

Stability, hardware and the control box

Hands-on coverage comes from specialist standing-desk sites. StandDeskLab reports a slight wobble around 42 inches that becomes more noticeable by 48 inches, typical two-leg behavior at full extension, and says a $15 to $30 bolt-on crossbar fixes most of the top-of-range wobble. It also reports screws supplied for the bamboo desktop running too short with cheap, inconsistently seated inserts, boxes arriving separately with occasional missing parts, and desks sticking mid-move until the controller is reset. The control box is a separate, region-specific part; a US-based owner of a European 110 V/220-240 V 3-stage-low Jarvis was looking for a US 110 V control box. An office buyer reports the desks solid at about 42 inches, with two employees over 6'3" running near maximum height noticing some sway, and assembly taking two people 30 to 45 minutes. One buyer notes that an undersized top amplifies wobble, and that mounting a buyer-supplied top saves $150 to $250 per desk.

The Herman Miller Store lists the bamboo rectangle from $1,245 to $1,725, with $1,495 shown for the 48 × 30 configuration, and offers 30-day returns. A specialist site puts list pricing at about $1,175 to $1,425 and says 20 to 25 percent off is common. Office purchasing figures from 2024-2025 orders put a full bamboo-top Jarvis at $850 to $1,100, laminate at $750 to $950, frame only at $500 to $650, and L-shaped or larger units at $1,000 to $1,400. There are no consumables; the repair parts that matter are the $99 third-party controller and top hardware. Under $1,000 for the bamboo configuration is reasonable if the 51-inch ceiling and solid-wood top are what you need and you accept self-insurance; above $1,500 is poor relative value for a two-leg desk with top-of-range sway and an unverified claims process.

Which model this is

This page covers the 48 × 30 rectangle bamboo top on the 3-stage frame, manufacturer SKU 100439194. It is sold as the Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk, Rectangle by the Herman Miller Store. The 48 × 30 2-stage and 3-stage-low frames are different configurations of the same family and should not be merged. The Amazon listing is ASIN B07PJTGVN2. Don’t confuse it with the Jarvis Laminate, the 3-motor Jarvis L-Shaped, or Fully monitor arms.
