Summary

A stainless-steel Wear OS smartwatch from Fossil’s final smartwatch line, with a bright 1.28-inch AMOLED display, a Snapdragon Wear 4100+ processor and fast magnetic charging. Check the battery and the platform before buying: run time lands around 12-24 hours in testing, and Fossil left the smartwatch market in January 2024.

Strengths

  • Solid stainless-steel case and pushers with a genuine crown and two buttons.
  • Fast charging reaches most of a full charge in about an hour, quicker than older Fossil generations.
  • Pairs with both Android and iOS, and supports Google Pay.
  • Battery is manageable when tuned: about 24 hours with the always-on display on, up to 36 hours with it off.

Weaknesses

  • Battery is the weakest part: roughly 12-24 hours, under the “24+” claim and behind same-generation rivals.
  • GPS over-read a known 1.15-mile walk as 1.68 miles in one test, about 46%.
  • Sleep tracking was less accurate than a Pixel Watch in side-by-side testing.
  • No ECG, and the Wear OS 3 fitness app covers only Outdoor and Indoor workouts.
  • The magnetic charger disconnects easily; one reviewer found the watch dead after a night on the puck.
  • Fossil exited the smartwatch market in January 2024, so software support is a time-boxed promise with no end date.

Battery life and charging

Fossil advertises “24+ hours (based on usage)” with Extended Battery Mode for multiple days, but measurements land below the headline. Android Police measured about 12 hours with everything on including the always-on display, roughly 18 hours with tilt-to-wake and 24 hours in Extended Battery Mode, with a full charge in about an hour. Android Authority measured about 24 hours of passive use with the watch down to 10-15% by morning, and about 80% in about 30 minutes. TechRadar got barely a day with the always-on display off, and a full charge inside an hour. Owners cluster around 12-24 hours, with 36 hours possible in Extended Mode with the always-on display off. Continuous heart rate and GPS are the biggest drains.

Fitness, GPS and health

The sensor list is competitive on paper but the tracking is not. Android Authority logged a known 1.15-mile walk as 1.68 miles with GPS on, about a 46% over-read, and both Android Authority and WIRED flagged sleep tracking as inaccurate next to a Pixel Watch. Heart rate and SpO2 tested accurate against a Pixel Watch and a pulse oximeter. There is no ECG despite the full sensor array, and the fitness app on Wear OS 3 covers only Outdoor and Indoor workouts.

Software and support

The Gen 6 launched on Wear OS 2 in August 2021 and Wear OS 3 only arrived as an opt-in update in 2022; the separately sold Wellness Edition shipped on Wear OS 3 natively in October 2022. A November 2024 release moved units to Wear OS 3.5 with the April 2024 security patch, the first update since August 2023. Fossil announced its exit from smartwatches on 2024-01-27 and promised updates “for the next few years” without an end date. The US warranty runs one year and excludes the case, crystal, strap, software and battery wear that stays above 80% capacity; there is no public spare-parts or self-repair channel, and the RMA desk may substitute a replacement of equal value rather than the same model.

Is it worth it?

Launch pricing was $299 for silicone or leather and $319 for stainless steel. Owners report clearance buys at $99 (Wellness Edition, February 2024) and $58 (May 2024). At around $100 or less it is defensible as a good-looking, cross-platform Wear OS watch if you accept roughly a day of battery and a discontinued platform; at $100-150 only if the battery expectation is modest; above $150 the Galaxy Watch and Pixel Watch families offer multi-day battery, better GPS and richer health tracking. The Wellness Edition retailed at $299 and scored poorly for battery and lag.

Which model this is

This page covers the Fossil Gen 6 Touchscreen Smartwatch in the 44 mm case, launched on 2021-08-30. The same platform also came as a 42 mm case and under license as the Michael Kors Gen 6 and Skagen Falster Gen 6. It is not the Gen 6 Wellness Edition (the first native Wear OS 3 variant, October 2022) and not the Gen 6 Hybrid, which uses an E-ink display and Fossil’s own app rather than Wear OS. The hardware carries no single public model code; variants differ by case size, finish and bracelet.
