Folgers Breakfast Blend: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-17

Summary

Folgers Breakfast Blend is a mild light-roast pre-ground coffee, and the usual trouble is freshness: opened grounds are at their best for only 1-3 weeks, so a large canister can go stale before it is finished, and delivery canisters sometimes arrive crushed. Running cost is roughly $102.25 a year of grounds for one 12 g cup a day at Walmart’s October 2026 rate. It is a good buy at $13.50 or less for the 22.6-oz canister, reasonable up to $16.70, and worth comparing alternatives above $18.

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

At Walmart’s $14.96 per 22.6-oz rate and an assumed 12 g of grounds a day, the research computed about 4,380 g a year, roughly 6.84 canisters, or $102.25 a year of grounds; buying whole canisters as needed would mean seven tubs at $104.72. At Target’s $16.69 the same habit works out to about $114.09 a year, and two 6-fl-oz cups a day at 24 g of grounds comes to about $204.50 a year at the Walmart rate. None of this includes water, heating, brewer wear, filters, milk, sweeteners or tax. [2][6][7]

When it is a good buy

For the 22.6-oz canister, the research’s editorial thresholds are: at or below $13.50 (about $0.60/oz) it is a good sale, $13.50-$16.70 is reasonable if this is your preferred mild coffee, and above $18 (about $0.80/oz) it is worth shopping around. In the same October 2026 check, Target listed Good & Gather Breakfast Blend (12 oz) at $8.99 ($0.749/oz) and Walmart listed McCafé Breakfast Blend (12 oz) at $9.97 ($0.831/oz); the independent taster preferred Folgers over McCafé for body and toasted-woody depth. If you actually want a strong dark roast, Folgers Black Silk (22.6 oz) was $14.96 at Walmart, the same as Breakfast Blend there. A larger canister is not automatically the better buy — the biggest tub is the wrong choice for a one-cup-a-day household. [5][6][7][9][10][11][13]
