Summary
A $39.99 DIY add-on that supplies the clear panels, front door and hardware for enclosing an open-frame Flashforge Adventurer 5M; you print the structural parts yourself. Check before buying: it is not a ready-made box, and the claimed drop from 65 dB to 55 dB is a manufacturer figure with no independent measurement behind it.
Strengths
- The non-printed hardware (panels, door, magnets, PTFE, screws) comes in one box at $39.99.
- Official STL, STEP and a pre-plated OrcaSlicer 3MF file are free to download.
- Owners who installed it report a worthwhile subjective noise reduction.
- The fitted panels reduce drafts compared with a fully open frame.
- Community remixes (Kuangming Qin, Doug Joseph) offer alternatives if the stock risers are awkward.
Weaknesses
- Printed structural parts are not included; expect hours of printing and assembly.
- The 65 dB to 55 dB figure is promotional, with no standard or third-party measurement.
- No active filtration or exhaust, so odor control is unverified.
- The printer’s own listing warns against ABS-family filaments despite the enclosure page promoting them.
- Flashforge’s return policy excludes accessories, so damaged panels may not be replaced.

Noise and temperature claims
Flashforge advertises a drop from 65 dB to 55 dB, but no standard, microphone distance, print profile or third-party before-and-after measurement was found. Multiple owners report a subjectively quieter machine, which is useful but not a calibrated result. The AD5M’s build volume stays 220 × 220 × 220 mm; the enclosure does not change it. A closed case also limits access to the bed and nozzle, and a warmer chamber can affect PLA prints.
Problems owners report
- Filament run-out sensor orientation: one owner found filament feeding only the wrong way after installation; a community workaround uses a revised printed sensor mount. Test the feed path before a long job.
- Screen and ribbon-cable damage: one owner ripped a screen cable while moving a modified printer; another found mounting the display on the metal frame avoided repeated detachment. Handle flex cables carefully.
- Print failures on large parts: one owner reported repeated failures on riser B after about 12 hours of printing.
- Stock parts can feel overcomplicated: some owners called the top and riser parts long to print or awkward to mount, while others reported excellent fit.
- Shipping damage: one buyer reported a cracked top cover on arrival; inspect every clear panel before committing to hours of printed parts.
Parts and running costs
Once assembled the enclosure has no electrical input, no subscription and no standard replaceable filter, so direct recurring kit cost is $0 per year. The real cost is the one-time print: a community minimal design used about 570 g of PETG, which at an observed $18.99 per kg works out to about $10.82 of plastic, plus roughly $0.40 of electricity for an illustrative 20 hours at 100 W and $0.20 per kWh. Those figures are examples, not measured standard costs. Clear panels, door and top cover come in the kit and are replaced only if cracked or scratched; no OEM spare part numbers or prices were found. Hinges, 33 magnets, screws and PTFE tubes (91 mm, 150 mm, 515 mm) are installation hardware, not routine consumables. No annual repair cost can be estimated; none was published.
Is it worth it?
At $39.99 from the Flashforge US store or Walmart, the hardware is cheap for what it includes, provided you accept the DIY labor. At $49.99 from a US reseller it is still reasonable if damaged-panel support is straightforward. Above $55 delivered, consider cutting your own panels or a specialty panel set instead. Add about $10 of PETG for the printed structure, plus time. The kit suits an AD5M owner who already prints PLA or PETG accurately and wants some noise and temperature containment without buying another printer. It is a poor fit if you want a snap-on box, integrated exhaust or carbon/HEPA filtration, or official assured ABS and ASA compatibility. The AD5M printer listing warns against ABS-family filaments despite the enclosure page promoting them, and adding panels does not settle that conflict.
Which model this is
This is the enclosure kit for the open-frame Flashforge Adventurer 5M (AD5M), sold as an accessory and not a new printer. It is not the Adventurer 5M Pro or the AD5X enclosure kit. The printed manual is titled EN-A03 and limits assembly to the Adventurer 5M. A US reseller stocks it under SKU FLF-ENC-5M, which is a reseller identifier rather than a verified factory part number. The Amazon listing for this kit is ASIN B0F13Q5DNQ.
