Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A $39.99 official DIY enclosure for the Flashforge Adventurer 5M: the buyer prints the structural parts and assembles the panels, drag chain and hardware in 26 steps. Check two things before buying: it fits only the Adventurer 5M, and Flashforge’s return policy and warranty exclude accessories.

Strengths

  • Low official price: Flashforge lists the kit at $39.99 USD and €39.99.
  • Official fit for the Adventurer 5M, with a published 26-step manual.
  • Enables ABS, ASA and PC printing through claimed temperature stability.
  • Modular design with printable parts for personalization.
  • Manufacturer-site owners report good fit and clear instructions.
  • Community printable-model pages reuse the kit geometry.

Weaknesses

  • DIY kit: the buyer must print the structural parts, and print time and filament are not quantified.
  • The 65 dB to 55 dB noise claim has no independent measurement.
  • No assembled dimensions or weight are published, so desk fit is unverifiable from the listing.
  • Accessory exclusion: not returnable and not covered by the printer warranty under Flashforge’s policy.
  • One manufacturer-site owner reported a cracked top cover on arrival.
  • No ventilation or filtration component is documented for the kit.

How the kit goes together

The kit is not a drop-on cover. Installation takes 26 steps and requires disassembling the printer’s front cover, top cover and extruder cable, then re-routing the extruder cable through a drag chain. The box holds the non-printed parts: top cover, front door plate, side plates, drag chain, extruder top cover, PTFE tubes, screws, nuts and magnets. The buyer prints the guard plates, risers, hinges, magnet holders, spool holder, handles and shielding plate from files Flashforge publishes, and fixes the magnets with instant adhesive. Frame 3D models and an OrcaSlicer project file are also published. No spare-parts listing for magnets, screws, plates or handles was found, so a damaged printed part has to be reprinted and a damaged panel replaced out of pocket.

Noise, odor and temperature claims

Flashforge claims a noise reduction from 65 dB to 55 dB, odor isolation for ABS and ASA, temperature stability that supports ABS, ASA and PC, and protection from dust, children and pets. None of these claims have been independently measured in the sources found; the manufacturer’s own product page is the only source. Owner impressions split: one reviewer describes the noise reduction as “a little,” another calls it “great noise reduction,” and one notes a fan whistle became acceptable after installation. Treat the figures as plausible for a partial enclosure with a door and top cover, not as measured results.

Coverage, returns and repair

Flashforge grants a 12-month limited warranty to printers and a 3-month warranty to extruder parts, and states that filaments and accessories are not covered under the return policy; accessories are also listed among parts excluded from warranty. On that basis the enclosure kit, as an accessory, is not eligible for return under the published policy and is not covered by the printer warranty. Only printer returns within 30 days of delivery in original packaging are accepted, with quality issues confirmed by Flashforge support first. Whether any DOA coverage applies to the kit is not stated. Printed parts can be reprinted from Flashforge’s published files, but no spare-hardware listing was found.

Is it worth it?

At the manufacturer’s $39.99 USD and €39.99, the kit is a low-cost official upgrade for an owner who wants the documented fit and accepts DIY assembly. At or below $40 it is good value for that buyer; from $41 to $60 it is fair and should be compared with third-party enclosures that include pre-cut panels and may offer returns; above $60 it is weak unless the official fit and printable-part support are specifically required, because the kit still requires self-printing and offers no coverage for defects. The value case rests on compatibility and the official installation guide; the weak points are the unverified 65 dB to 55 dB claim and the lack of coverage for defects.

Which model this is

This page covers the accessory kit for the Flashforge Adventurer 5M (AD5M), sold as the “AD5M Enclosure DIY Kit” and “Enclosure Kit for Flashforge Adventurer 5M.” Flashforge’s accessory navigation lists the same kit under both AD5M and AD5M Pro, but the installation manual states it applies to the Adventurer 5M only; fit for the AD5M Pro or AD5X is not documented. The installation manual is revision A03 dated 2024-07-10, though its PDF metadata title reads A01 dated 2024-01-30, a file-version discrepancy rather than a product revision. The Amazon listing for this kit is ASIN B0GCH7BQ5L. Do not confuse the kit with the printer itself.
