Summary
An open-frame CoreXY FDM printer with a 220 × 220 × 220 mm build volume, a 280 °C all-metal direct-drive hotend with quick-release 0.4 mm nozzle, automatic leveling, a PEI flex plate and a 4.3-inch touchscreen.
Strengths
- Fast real-world printing (Benchy in 26.8 minutes in testing).
- CoreXY frame with auto leveling removes the bed-leveling ritual.
- 280 °C direct-drive hotend covers PLA, PETG, TPU and CF blends.
- Quick-release nozzles and PEI flex plate make upkeep easy.
- Effective file-bed gradient held within 2.6 °C in testing.
Weaknesses
- Print quality rated only average: stitch lines, weak bridging, corner accuracy issues.
- The 600 mm/s headline is a maximum, not a working speed.
- Open frame; ABS/ASA not officially supported.
- No camera on the 5M; remote monitoring missing.
- Effective build area about 217 × 217 mm, smaller than the 220 mm headline.
- US consumer support is thin (China-based email, overnight turnaround).

Speed and print quality
The motion system is genuinely fast: TechGearLab measured a Benchy in 26.8 minutes with the heated bed holding a 2.6 °C gradient, excellent dimension tolerances and best-in-test support-removal surfaces. But print quality was scored only average (6.7 out of 100): visible stitch lines at layer seams, layer separation on short bridging spans, corner accuracy issues and stringing in overhangs. CNET describes solid printing at 300 mm/s, and the manufacturer’s UK FAQ lists 200 mm/s with optimal quality at 60–100 mm/s, with acceleration of 5,000 mm/s² in its summary table. That internal conflict means the headline should not drive the purchase; CoreXY rigidity with auto leveling is the real advantage.
Materials, enclosure and upgrades
The 280 °C all-metal direct-drive hotend with quick-release nozzles covers PLA, PETG, TPU and carbon-fiber blends using the right nozzle size, and there is no proprietary filament lock-in. The frame is open, so ABS and ASA belong to the Pro variant’s material list; an official enclosure kit exists and at least one owner reports printing ABS on the stock machine at low speed.
Owner reports
Ease of use is the recurring praise: no Z-offset or bed-level screws, and loading an Orca file and printing. One owner printing PLA, PETG, TPU and ABS non-stop calls every print fantastic and prefers it to an earlier Neptune 4 Pro, and another runs two units constantly, praising fine-detail output on a 0.4 mm nozzle at 0.16 mm layer height. The caution signals are also recurring: mid-print failures in 2025 threads, clogging and extrusion issues, one owner with heated-bed and extruder PCB failure at 88 hours whose parts arrived quickly, and a drive gear that a detailed-print owner found not ideal for fine work. These are anecdotal signals; no prevalence data exists. RedDB’s aggregation of 223 Reddit mentions counted 43 negative opinions with reliability a leading theme.
Is it worth it?
At the reported March 2026 deal price of $239, the 5M is a strong first printer for PLA and PETG work, especially for buyers who value tinkering and farm printing; CNET called it the best moddable budget printer at $299. At $299 it stays fair. At the $399 list price it is hard to recommend over more polished competitors, and buyers needing enclosure and ABS should step to the Pro. Budget for filament, an optional enclosure kit, and the reality that US consumer support routes through China.
Which model this is
This page covers the Flashforge Adventurer 5M (AD5M), the open-frame, non-enclosed CoreXY sibling of the Adventurer 5M Pro (AD5MP, enclosed with camera and HEPA/carbon filtration) and the AD5X (multi-color). It is the first edition from September 2023, not the older Adventurer 3 or 4 series or the Creator line. Flashforge’s own comparison positions it as best for beginners and everyday projects. The Amazon listing used as the seed is ASIN B0CZMYB2X8.
