Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A DIY enclosure kit that turns the open-frame Flashforge Adventurer 5M / AD5M into an enclosed printer, shipping the 3 mm clear PC panels, magnetic door, hardware, drag chain and fan/light parts while the buyer prints the structural frame. Check your patience and printer time before you buy: the frame takes about 2–3 days to print before a 2-hour assembly.

Strengths

  • Low cost at $39.99 direct from Flashforge against the printer’s price.
  • Enables ABS, ASA and PC printing with less warping.
  • Noise reduction makes the printer usable in the same room.
  • Odor and dust containment for ABS/ASA work.
  • Safety barrier for children and pets.
  • Transparent panels allow monitoring without opening the chamber.

Weaknesses

  • Requires 2–3 days of printing before a 2-hour assembly.
  • Official files have quirks: reversed filament-sensor mounting, heavy supports on guard plates.
  • Missing hardware reported (one user found 7 screws missing).
  • Protective film can be mistaken for cloudy or scratched panels.
  • No HEPA or carbon filter included; odor containment is not filtration.
  • No warranty period is stated on the manufacturer pages.

What it is and what you print

The kit ships the non-printed parts and leaves the structural frame to you. Corner joints, the 8 guard plates, fan ducts and related parts must be printed from Flashforge’s free files before assembly, and Flashforge recommends PETG at 100% infill for load-bearing joints. Guard plates need substantial supports unless rotated flat, and community-optimized Printables files are often reported to fit better and use less filament than the official ones. PLA printed parts can soften at high bed temperatures, so PETG is the safer choice for joints.

Chamber temperature and materials

Flashforge claims a stable 40–50 °C chamber for ABS, ASA and PETG. One owner measured 38–42 °C, including 40 °C in a 9–10 °C garage. Polycarbonate panels are rated to 130 °C (266 °F), so the panels themselves are not the limiting factor. The enclosure is passive: it uses no power of its own and relies on the printer’s heated bed, nozzle and fans. Cable management is handled by the included drag chain.

Noise

The manufacturer claims noise drops from 65 dB to 55 dB, a 10 dB reduction. No independent measurement method was published, so treat the figure as a manufacturer spec echoed by reviewers rather than a tested result.

Owner results

One owner reports a 90% reduction in failed ABS prints and 98% bed-adhesion success, with a stable 38–42 °C chamber over about 1,200 print hours, and panels still clear after six months. Panels are durable and transparent enough to monitor prints without opening the chamber. Treat these as single-owner results, not a population rate.

Running costs and upkeep

Ownership cost is mostly filament and time: PETG or ASA for the printed parts at 100% infill on load-bearing joints, print time, electricity and optional acoustic foam. There is no recurring subscription or consumable lock-in. Keep panels clean with a microfiber cloth and isopropyl alcohol; inventory the hardware before starting the print job. Replacement panels are not sold as a kit, but standard 3 mm PC sheet can be cut to replace a damaged panel.

Which model this is

This page covers the Flashforge “Enclosure Kit for Flashforge Adventurer 5M”, marketed for the AD5M (the same printer), sold as the 3 mm clear PC DIY panel kit, SKU DLZ-AD5M-Enclosure Kit-N-B-1, GTIN/UPC 6937120329701. The product was created 2024-06-11 and published 2025-09-24 on the Flashforge US store. Do not confuse it with the separate AD5X enclosure kit (SKU DLZ-AD5X-Enclosure Kit-N-B-1, $49.00) or with third-party “compatible” snap-fit kits from Funssor or AliExpress, which use different brackets and may need no printing.

The Amazon listing for this kit is ASIN B0CW61BTL9.

Is it worth it?

At $39.99 direct from Flashforge, the kit is low-cost relative to the printer and adds high-temperature material capability, noise reduction and a safety barrier. Value is strongest for AD5M owners who can already print and accept a multi-day build. Value drops if you cannot print or expect a plug-and-play solution; a pre-enclosed “Pro” model may be the better starting point. Third-party snap-fit kits suit buyers wanting faster installation, but their fit and material claims differ.
