Summary

The Work Sharp Professional Precision Adjust is a benchtop guided sharpening system with an all-metal clamp, a magnetic digital angle indicator and seven abrasives covering repair to polish. Check two things before you buy: no carrying case is included, and a 2025 video documents nylon bushing wear in the plate holder.

Strengths

  • The all-metal clamp and chassis remove the flex that owners criticize on the base model.
  • The magnetic digital indicator reads to 0.25°, so angles are repeatable without guesswork.
  • The seven-abrasive kit covers everything from repair to mirror polish.
  • Sharpening Supplies measured a pre-production sample at 127 grams on an Edge-On-Up tester.
  • Replacement plates, a universal handle and a V2 clamp upgrade keep long-term costs manageable.
  • A 3-year warranty and a direct parts channel back it up.

Weaknesses

  • No carrying case is included; Work Sharp sells one for $106.95.
  • Tips and heels need extra technique and are the most common sharpening complaint.
  • A 2025 video documented nylon bushing wear in the plate holder that needs bronze bushings to fix.
  • The 0.25° figure is the indicator’s resolution, not verified accuracy under load; one owner cites about ±0.5° when turning the blade.
  • Only about 2.5" of the 6" plate contacts the blade, so long knives take longer.
  • Some owners report the 220 grit plate stops cutting after a break-in period.

Sharpening results

The system’s case is repeatability. The digital inclinometer attaches to the rod and reads to a quarter degree, so you can set an angle exactly and return to it. The all-metal clamp was designed to fix the flex that owners complain about on the base Precision Adjust. Sharpening Supplies measured a pre-production Pro sample at 127 grams on an Edge-On-Up tester, sharper than a factory edge. Work Sharp’s own comparison test scored the Pro PA at 104 on a BESS tester against 158 for the PA Elite, with the Pro sharpening in 36 minutes versus 47. That test is manufacturer-run, not independent. TechGearLab tested the base model, not the Pro, and scored it 73/100.

Parts, wear and running costs

Abrasives are removable, and Work Sharp sells replacements directly: a 220 grit diamond plate at $19.95 and a universal handle at $47.95 that accepts 4"–6" third-party abrasives. The V2 clamp upgrade costs $119.95 and an upgrade bundle with resin-bonded stones and a premium strop is $239.95. Clean clogged diamond plates with Windex and a toothbrush. The wear item to watch is the nylon bushings in the plate holder: a February 2025 video documents the newer bushings wearing out, with bronze self-lubricating bushings as the fix. Work Sharp has not published whether that design change has been reversed.

Is it worth it?

Work Sharp lists the Pro PA at $299.95 on its own store, and a third-party storefront snapshot showed $149.98. At roughly $150 the all-metal build, digital indicator and 7-grit kit are strong value against KME and Wicked Edge systems. At full $299.95 it stays reasonable, but budget for a case at $106.95 if you need portability and weigh the bushing issue. Above $300 the case is hard unless the digital indicator is a specific requirement, since the Precision Adjust Elite covers most sharpening needs for less. The universal handle means no consumable lock-in.
