Eureka ReactiSense 440 NEC440BK: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-17

Summary

A bagless 25.9-volt cordless stick vacuum that senses dust and floor type to adjust suction, with an anti-tangle brushroll, washable HEPA filtration and a removable battery. The main long-term issues are runtime that falls well short of the 60-minute low-mode claim under load, weak agitation on some short-pile rugs, suction loss from a blocked filter or wand, and a spare battery that is sold out at Eureka and listed as no longer available by the parts distributor. There are no mandatory consumables — a healthy filter set costs $0 a year — and energy works out to roughly $0.84 a year; it is a good buy at $110 or less.

Common problems and fixes

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

No mandatory consumables: the filters and cyclone wash in cold water, and there are no bags, pads or subscriptions, so a healthy filter set costs $0 a year. Energy illustration: the 64.75 Wh pack at one charge a week, an assumed 80% charging efficiency and an assumed $0.20 per kWh draws about 4.21 kWh a year, roughly $0.84. An optional annual filter change is $12.95 for the dustcup filter plus $20.95 for the post-motor HEPA, $33.90, about $34.74 with energy — not mandatory, and neither part’s stock is confirmed. Without failure-rate data there is no defensible annual repair figure; the battery at $39.99 and the floorhead at $80.95 are the expensive unknowns.

When it is a good buy

Eureka’s deals page advertised $109.99 in October 2026, reduced $70 from $179.99, while the product page showed $179.99; the spread may be session, campaign or cart dependent. Buy bands from the research: $110 or less excellent for a manufacturer sale with return protection, $110–$130 good, $130–$155 the point to compare alternatives, above $175 poor value. Two price traps: Walmart’s $158.93 ReactiSense listing is titled NEC451BL, a different model, and a closed September 2026 Hibid auction ended at $87.01 for an allegedly new unit sold as-is with local pickup and no warranty. Alternatives: the Levoit LVAC-200 at $139.95 lists a $69.99 battery and $21.99 filter sets in stock and is the better choice when parts supply matters most; the BISSELL PowerClean 4173 at $199.99 is self-standing and better if you clean rugs regularly; Eureka’s own NEC410BK at $99.99 suits simple hard-floor chores on a tight budget with a 200 W motor.
