eufy Security Video Doorbell E340 Kit with Battery: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-22

Summary

The E340 is a dual-camera battery doorbell (2K above the door, 1080p looking down at the step) with 8 GB of on-device storage and no subscription, and the part that goes wrong most is the battery: the quoted six months is a ceiling, owners report six to eight weeks per charge and 10–14 days on a busy entrance. There is no monthly fee, but replacement battery packs at about $39 each are the running expense, and it is a good buy at $100 or less, still reasonable up to $130 and weak above $170 unless the second camera and package detection are the reason.

Common problems and fixes

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

Recording, live view and the person, package and animal detection all work without a subscription, so there is no monthly fee. The running cost is the battery: a spare pack is about $39 at eufy (October 2026), and at the six to eight weeks per charge owners report, a year of use comes to roughly 6 to 9 packs. Where the door sees heavy traffic and the battery lasts 10–14 days, the same figure multiplies several times over. Electricity is negligible, since the manufacturer rates the unit at 1 W.

When it is a good buy

eufy.com listed the standalone battery unit at $169.99 in October 2026, and eufy’s own blog has featured it at $119.98. Tom’s Guide covered Black Friday and Prime Day sales of this doorbell. In that coverage the price was $119.99 from eufy, $99.99 at Walmart and $139.99 at Target.

At $100 or less the E340 is strong value: a dual-camera 2K doorbell with color night vision, an IP65 rating, free local storage and no subscription. Up to $130 it stays good, especially if package detection and a removable battery are what you are buying. Between $130 and $170 it is fair value, and above $170 the dual camera and package detection have to be the reason.

Two alternatives. Ring, when you want a single-camera doorbell and the wider third-party support this unit lacks, since it has no IFTTT, no RTSP and HomeKit only through a HomeBase — owners moving from Ring name motion detection, video quality and the absence of a monthly fee as the reasons they stayed with eufy. And the eufy Floodlight Camera E340 (T8425), when the entrance needs a floodlight rather than a chime, since it is a separate product from this doorbell.
