Summary
A modified-PLA 3D-printing filament that prints with PLA-like ease but claims more toughness. Plan for moisture before you buy: owners report wet spools out of the box, and drying is part of using it.
Strengths
- Tougher than standard PLA, according to owner reports.
- Prints with PLA-like ease, often around 215–225 °C.
- ±0.03 mm tolerance and a wide colour range.
- A large owner base, so fixes for common problems are easy to find.
- eSUN ships from a US warehouse.
Weaknesses
- eSUN’s own product page, TDS and the MatterHackers datasheet publish conflicting strength numbers.
- Fresh spools often arrive wet enough to cause stringing, popping and holes.
- The filament can turn brittle after two to three days open to air.
- Some recent spools arrived brittle for reasons drying did not clearly fix.
- The food-contact claims apply to the raw material, not to printed parts.

What PLA+ is and is not
“PLA+” has no universal industry standard; each manufacturer’s PLA+ is a proprietary blend, so eSUN’s numbers are not comparable to another brand’s PLA+ by name alone.
The upsides owners keep coming back to are toughness and ease. Reddit owners call it their go-to daily filament, printing well at 215–225 °C with better layer adhesion and a less brittle feel than plain PLA. The Bambu Lab forum consensus is that it is at least slightly more durable than Bambu PLA Basic, with little visual difference.
Moisture is the real ownership cost
The recurring caution is water. Prusa forum owners report fresh spools that string, pop and leave holes in extruded lines, mostly fixed by drying or a dry box. A Bambu Lab owner reports the filament snapping when respooled, fixed by drying, and notes it starts becoming brittle after two to three days in the open air. eSUN’s own guidance is to dry at 50 °C for 8–12 h, and vacuum storage with desiccant is the standard owner practice.
There is a limit: one owner warns that drying too hot or too long makes PLA+ brittle in the same way moisture does. A minority of owners report brittle spools, concentrated in recent months, that did not clearly improve with drying. These are anecdotal signals, not defect rates.
Spec sheets that disagree
Treat any single strength number in a listing as one of several values. eSUN’s product page lists tensile strength (XY) at 70.37 MPa while the July 2025 TDS lists 53.34 MPa for the same product, and MatterHackers lists 65 MPa. Density and impact figures differ in the same way. The value case rests on toughness over standard PLA and on price, not on an independently verified strength number, because no instrumented lab test of this filament was found.
Is it worth it?
eSUN’s official US store lists PLA+ at $16.99–22.99 per 1 kg spool; the 2023 review listed $23.99/kg and All3DP’s 2021 guide around $24/kg. Below $18/kg it is a solid default PLA+, helped by the tolerance, the colour range and US shipping. The $19–23/kg band is fair, and above $28/kg the value weakens against filaments with stronger independent test coverage. Filament is the only consumable, but budget for a dryer or dry box with desiccant, because owners treat it as close to necessary.
Which model this is
This page covers eSUN PLA PRO, branded PLA+, in 1.75 mm at 1 kg per spool. eSUN also sells a standard PLA (PLA-Basic), a high-speed PLA+HS and a spool-less PLA+ Refilament, which are different products. The Amazon listing carries ASIN B095MTT7D3.
